Why Solihull and Fylde going up might be a good thing for football
Cheltenham, Forest Green, Stevenage, Crawley, Macclesfield, Morecambe and Yeovil are the seven worst followed teams in League Two but teams like Notts County or Port Vale could soon be joining us in hell. If Boreham Wood had beaten Tranmere in the play offs, that would have woken up the Football League, big time. They barely get 500 fans a week. If our tinpot rivals get promotion ahead of Wrexham and Leyton Orient (the only two proper clubs in the mix) then I can seriously see the EFL bring in three up and three down. We got over 7,000 fans today. Solihull got about 26. At some point, the EFL will wake up and see what is going on. |

I agree, they don’t care. I’m sure they won’t change anything but the seven teams I’ve quoted all average less than 3,000 fans a week and that includes away fans. If there were ten of these clubs in the EFL then I think the mood would change.
I hope our club is in dialogue with other clubs like ours in the National League to lobby for change. |

Got more chance if the EFL tried to enforce some sort of financial fair play down in the conference. That would sort things out. Teams like Wrexham getting 7000 a week, who can’t compete with Solihull for wages who have 900 watching them a week. Absolute madness.

You can't brand a club tinpot on the basis of how many supporters they have in relation to other clubs.
And attendances wont be used as criteria to increase / reduce promotion / relegation places. |

There is no definition of “tinpotness” but if you look at what the ex-Conference clubs in the Football League contribute to both interest in the game, support and revenue then I don’t think I’m far off. The ones further up the pyramid don’t offer much either. They’re all there on merit, I get that, that’s why we’re where we are, but do you think Sunderland and Portsmouth fans would rather play Burton and Fleetwood over Wrexham, Chesterfield or Orient. I doubt it. In ten years, the National League could be a better supported league than League Two. That’s why the EFL needs to wake up now. |

They'll never do three up, three down. Clubs would likely have to agree and it'd be like turkeys voting for Christmas.
