We did the job on ourselves. They were average at best but didnt have to be any better to show us up. MOM hmmmmm Kennedy prob but no-one deserved it.

Wonder if anyone thinks we couldnt have signed 1-2 Gateshead players on loan to improve us rather than a player who couldnt even stand up.

What an embarrasment tonight.

Default Re: Barrow Reaction

We lacked Leaders tonight, that’s the reality

Without Pearson at the back, and without Summerfield and Walker in midfield, the likes of Young and Wright are left with too much to do

It was the centre midfield where we lost the game tonight, first half

Although Wright was a bit lost without summerfield and Walker, he should at least be credited with his work rate, one of the few who could say he put a shift in

Roberts must be carrying an injury or got man flu or something, cos there’s no way he is normally that bad

Hughes is getting a bit of stick for the team selection, but, with those key three players out, and no Mr Versatile, Carrington, either, he had little choice?

The four outfield players on the bench need to take a good look at themselves. You were benched for a reason guys. Rutherford, Holroyd, Grant, Stockton. Because you’ve been underperforming. You weren’t an option tonight for the first X1.

Baptism of fire for McGlashan, people around me complained he’s made of paper etc, but he just debuted when the team had no Leaders on the pitch.

Up front, Beavon, Oswell, mostly anonymous. But with such poor service from midfield, they’re isolated.

We’ve seen a few strikers come and go that looked pretty shite, like Boden and Beck, who are riding high in the goalscorers charts for our league. It probably is that they are both fairly average, but it shows that if you provide supply to them, they will score a few.

Equally, the way we have been set up every season since we lost at Wembley to Newport, it appears to me we are set up not to lose, rather than set up to win. This has left whoever is up front for us being isolated all too often.

Tonight, however, it looked to me like Hughes set us up to get forward more, but the lack of leaders, the lack of quality in midfield, meant we looked lost in being asked to get forward more. It just didn’t really happen, and Barrow saw the chance to pick us off.

For Saturday we need to see who we can put back in to give us the backbone we lacked tonight. If there’s no Pearson, Carra, summerfield, Walker, then I’m not sure what we can do.

Ha ha. So we have for 433, 532, 352 451 and every other combination that seems to have happened this season but not 442.

You must be a tactical genius.

Our problem isnt formation its individual performances.

Wrong team. Wrong tactics. Completely unprepared.
In the buildup to the first goal as Barrow were preparing to take the corner several players didn’t know where they were supposed to be. One player ran back to the 6 yard box and wasn’t set. McGlashan didn’t know where he was supposed to be. Shambles. And didn’t get any better after that.
Looking forward to the rugby on Saturday.

Hit the nail right on the head. Our playing squad consistsof full time professionals. Sadly in a club run by amatuers

Doesn't a performance like that raise questions such as:

Why has our player recruitment been so poor? Numerous poor loans and fees paid for average players (with maybe one or two exceptions). Many will say because there simply isn't the funds there to get the better players in - hard to argue with that.

Why did we go for such an inexperienced manager again? Ex-player or not, there shouldn't be any room for sentiment with such crucial decisions. People could argue any appointment is a gamble, but some surely are a bigger gamble than others? Flynn's appointment could prove to be a very good one, but it's still asking a hell of a lot for him to carry his manager along. We shouldn't be a testing ground for up & coming managers, we've been in this hell hole too long for that.

Where's the leadership? Pearson aside, there isn't a leader amongst the squad at all. Why is that seemingly everyone is in agreement that to be successful in this league you need leaders in your squad, a solid spine of warriors you'd go to battle with which is the core of your squad which should then be supplemented with creativity, goalscoring and utility. Having no midfield general and a top scorer on 5 goals at this stage of the season is totally unacceptable and will never win us promotion.

As an indicator for quality, you have to ask yourself how many of our players would get into the other teams in the top 6? Apart from Lainton and Pearson I doubt any of the others would - that surely tells us we're not a squad that's good enough for promotion.

Where is it going wrong? Is there a lack of footballing strategy coming from the top? Where's the footballing side to the structure to the club? The side that is ultimately the most important and the part which leads us to success.

I didn’t go tonight (thankfully) but plenty slating the team picked and the formation, yet if you check the live thread before the kick off everyone saying how pleased they were to see Hughes change the formation and we were setup better for attack.
I think credit to Hughes for trying to change it but obviously it’s massively backfired. Deep down we all know that we’re really not good enough and have probably been punching above our weight. At this stage of the season we have no other option but to carry on trying to grind out results and hopefully we get a bit of luck. Either way Hughes has a big job on his hands building a quality squad in the summer.

Said for ages, there has to be a Director of Football/Head of Recruitment who stays when managers bail out.

This squad has been out together by about 5 different managers. It's full of odds and sods.

I couldn't tell you what a Wrexham team plays like, what a Wrexham goal looks like, what a Wrexham player does/doesn't.

There has to be an identity. Currently its make it up as we go along and hope for the best.
