And if you miss it - the game is on Youtube.

I was in the Mold Road Paddock that day - Sunderland were chasing automatic promotion to what was then Division 1 - (today's Premier League.
Joey Jones scored for us but in the closing stages Sunderland scored twice to win the game - never ever been in the ground where there were so many away supporters for a league match - Mold Road paddock was packed to the rafters - it was like scenes from the Anfield kop - it was so packed you could literally take your feet off the floor and remain in an upright position - Sunderland coaches as far as the eye could see all up Mold Road to the A483 roundabout - Blaydon races being sung by thousands !

The result didn't make a difference to us - but Sunderland were chasing promotion - Stoke City also came to us in the closing stages of that season with another massive following - they won 0 - 1 with a certain 'massive' centre forward Brendan O' Callaghan scoring a headed goal.

Seems like it was last month but so very long ago now.

They were mightily impressed when the results were read out and realised their little party on the pitch was all ruined as they hadn't gone up ( Hilarious )

Wrexham v Sunderland back on 5 th May 1979 attracted an attendance of 19,133.

A few weeks earlier when we hosted Stoke City on 21 April the attendance was 20,211.

These were our two highest home attendances of the 78 / 79 season no doubt massively swelled by the big away support of both clubs - we eventually ended the season in 15th position. We also hosted league games that season against Newcastle United, West Ham United, and Leicester City.

The race for promotion was incredible - Crystal Palace went up as Champions, followed by Brighton and Stoke City - Sunderland finished 4th - the top four clubs were separated by a mere two points.

Fantastic memories of the old ground - compared to what the kids of today have to witness.

Yes BB - FA Cup 4th Round replay - we got a 3 - 3 draw at White Hart Lane and so back to the Racecourse for a replay which I think went ahead on 21 February 1979 following an initial postponement. Seem to think there may have been snow around the perimeter of the pitch

The previous summer Argentina had won the world cup - there was great interest to see Spurs as included in their ranks were the Argentinian World Cup winners Ossie Ardilles and Ricardo Villa.

Ardilles was injured for the replay and Villa was named sub.

And so to the replay - another game I remember well and watched from the Yale Stand - we were losing 0 - 1 with about 4 minutes to go when centre back Gareth Davies equalised in the Tech End net to send the tie to extra time.

We took the lead in extra time - only for Spurs to bring on supersub Villa - he transformed the tie in the closing stages and ripped us to shreds - carving us open and setting up the goalscorer who's name escapes me but think it was a forward called Colin Lee (might be wrong) but pretty sure he ended up scoring all 3 Spurs goals in what turned out to be a 2 - 3 defeat infront of 16,050

Red light I can remember that game if it was yesterday, for some reason my dad took me in the away end so we were in the middle of 1500 spurs fans doing the tango, not sure if it was jones or villa who scored the winner at the tech end but I was chuffed to stay out till gone 10.30 and wish I had realised that that night would live with me forever.

It was the kiwi striker Chris Jones who scored all of Tottenham's three goals that night. One of the many great Cup games from that era that stick long in the memory bank.
