I posted earlier that I could think of a couple of people I'd love to see on the WST board but didn't believe it was fair to suggest them. Both, as it happens, already do fantastic work for the DSA. One , as you have probably guessed , is Steve Gilbert. The other , and I hope he doesn't mind me mentioning his name, is Andy Pierce. I suspect , however, they get more enjoyment and satisfaction , from their current roles than they would on the WST board with all its obvious weaknesses and apparent unwillingness to change. Shame really , because there are some great people on the WST board whose power is currently limited by the present structure. Change will come , I believe, but it might take some time.

I really feel - with four places up for grabs this time around - that there is a rare opportunity this year for freshening things up, to be built upon next year with a further chance to add new faces.

That is very kind of you all folks and is heartening to read. I am sure Andy would feel the same.
It's something we have both thought about in the past but I do love my role in the DSA and am pretty sure Andy feels the same.
I am absolutely committed to improving the lot of disabled fans as much as I can though. To do both would be a massive commitment of time.

What we need is people with leadership and business skills plus contacts and the ambition to take the club back to the football league and then onwards and upwards.

What the Club Board needs is people of a fresh perspective with knowledge of football, money and experience of running a successful business.

I would expect the Board to have a clear understanding of its collective and individual strengths and weaknesses in respect of achieving its predetermined and outlined aims and strategy.

It should then seek individuals to plug the gaps, never mind whether candidates are season ticket holders, first attended the Cae Ras in nappies or lost their virginity on the Kop.

Too many candidate statements refer to irrelevancies.

What I don't see is how any of us can put ourselves forward, or indeed can be voted for by WST members, unless it's understood what the Board is trying to achieve and what skills and experiences are required.

If this isn't in place it's just a popularity contest - the winners will always be those who have the most connections within the WST membership. There's no place for individuals who don't know many other fans, despite perhaps having the necessary skills.

You're right, except you're also wrong. The WST does need to identify required skill sets, and if suitable candidates don't exist they need to find them, first choice co opt, second choice pay them. Do without is not an option.
Candidates can't be preselected, filteted or approved by the existing board, because that just closes down new ideas.
