Scottish challenge cup
Am I right that if we dont go up we will get invited to play in this next season as one of 2 highest placed national league teams not promoted?
Obviously very little comfort if we dont go up but some potentially decent away trips. |
Re: Scottish challenge cup
I hope this is not true, have too many fixtures with the crappy fa trophy as it is.

Can we not enter the FA Trophy and enter this instead? Purely for the away trips 😂 |
Re: Scottish challenge cup
Thinking about it I guess that assumes one of Solihull or Salford would go up if not us.
|
Re: Scottish challenge cup
We dont need to enter this joke competition.
Not only is it a completely worthless, we play in Scotland. It's as if someone thought of the word possible event. Posted via mobile theme |

Re: Scottish challenge cup
nomads lost in the final

Re: Scottish challenge cup
If it's the same format as this season, we'd be invited if one of Salford and Solihull won the play-offs
nomads lost in the final
Yes - Nomads lost 3 - 1 in the final having to travel up to Scotland to participate - also defeated an Irish team at home in an earlier round. Sutton United entered it this season but got eliminated early on. Having to travel to the likes of Scotland / Ireland for tin pot cup matches infront of meagre crowds who wont generate much income doesn't appeal in my view - not sure whether it's a case of being invited or it being compulsory to play in the competition. |
Re: Scottish challenge cup
Refuse to enter the competition or send an u18s/reserve squad. No benefit to us whatsoever.
|
Re: Scottish challenge cup
What sort of bunce would we be looking at?
|
Re: Scottish challenge cup
This is from a couple of years ago but we'd hardly be looking at mega bucks! Maybe we could sell the water on for a profit.
How much will my club make in prize money? THE distribution is as follows: First Round losers: £3,500. Second Round losers: £5,250. Third Round losers: £5,500. Fourth Round losers: £5,750. Quarter-final losers: £8,250. Semi-final losers: £10,250. Runners-Up: £12,750. Winners: £17,750. Will there be extra payments if my club is live on TV? NO. The briefing note says that, due to the increased number of live games, the SPFL board has decided "not to allocate television facility fee payments," and instead "maximise prize money". Are there any other benefits for clubs? YES. All 54 clubs will receive £740 of stock from AG Barr, the competition sponsors, which will normally come in the form of Strathmore bottled water. |

As someone who lives on the Scottish Border.
I for one cant wait. |

Re: Scottish challenge cup
So if we don't go up, we have to hope someone finishing below us does.

Re: Scottish challenge cup
Had a great time up there when we played in a pre-season tournament in Gretna a while ago.

Re: Scottish challenge cup
T.W.A.T.S will be there :drink:

Re: Scottish challenge cup
We’ve debated on here about the reserves not having opportunities to be match fit/sharp. This comp. could be an easy means of giving the fringe players a real chance to play and show what they could do.
If it was entered for this reason, I see no issues at all. |
Re: Scottish challenge cup
Irish teams enter too don’t they? Weekend on the pop in Dublin watching the Town would be superb.
|
Re: Scottish challenge cup
It’s interesting that both Sutton and Boreham Wood have not had as good a season as last season.
The cup might be fun for a few supporters but for the most, they won’t bother. Even home games. I like the concept of low end professional clubs/semi pro from different countries playing against one another but the reality is we have bigger fish to fry and the prize money isn’t enough to sustain an interest |

Re: Scottish challenge cup
What's this debate for ? We won't be able to play in the Scottish competition, after we win the play off final, at rip off Wembley ;)

Yep |
Re: Scottish challenge cup
I've enjoyed watching a few of these games at TNS/Connah's Quay and Bala when they haven't clashed with our games. Good atmosphere as the visitors have more than matched the home support. Football not of a high standard though - wouldn't want us to be involved. Just a distraction from more important matters.

Re: Scottish challenge cup
Torquay, Stockport, Nottingham, Dublin, Glasgow and Oswestry next season. Phwoar.
