1979/80 we had quite a few of crowds over 14,000 (Stoke, Sunderland, West Ham) but offset with some 6,000 to 8,000 with the likes of Bristol Rovers, Charlton, Luton.

5,000+ after 11/12 years in this hell hole watching some rather dire football at times is nothing short absolutely Outstanding.

Wrexham fans are some of the very best in the Uk.

Remember back in Div 4 in the 1980s when we'd be lucky to get 2,000 on a Saturday!

Yes I do; but don't forget as well as having a side in freefall and really struggling Wrexham and NE Wales was in a very bad place with mass unemployment in those days after the pits/Shotton/Brymbo shut or laid huge numbers of people off and before the town largely reinvented itself pretty successfully (ish) as a commuter place/the Industrial Estate really took off.

They were very grim times indeed economically for the area and a lot of people didn't have jobs or money to go to football in the 80s.

A ridiculous comparison. Times have changed so much in the football (and real) world since then. This is an outstanding achievement, despite the standard/level of football, the off-pitch antics etc, so we ought to be proud and not bash.

Fantastic support - the scousers in work are always impressed when I tell them the attendances at our non-league club.

Good effort.

Been said many times though. You're not comparing like with like. Tickets sold vs people in the ground are two different things.

Add to the fact the mid 90's rather dubious counting and its hard to compare. I remember sitting in the main stand and looking across at an 80% full kop and full away end, then howling with laughter(along with the rest of the stand) at the 3800 announcement !

5077 is a very good number of tickets sold for 5th tier football. That is a fact. Just not sure its particularly relevant to years gone by.

Just started watching the Fylde game, ground looks half empty, pathetic effort.

But we’ve got no business kicking them for that. After years of pretty poor football we still pull a crowd because it’s in the town’s DNA to do so. They’re a club from way down the leagues with no tradition of supporting the team there - more likely providing fans for Blackpool. And unlike non-league successes of the past, the money pumped in causes the team to grow faster than the rest of the club. There are traditional clubs with more to worry about when it comes to their gates (hello Chester).
