Because the budget dictates they had to, clearly.

Maybe if they hadn't and signed a winger who chips in with goals, we'd be in the football league.

Agreed Dixie

But can we afford better , and if we can, will they get the service from midfield, or are we going to play hoof ball again - here’s hoping not

Yes he was a grafter, was technically our best footballer but who cares, he didn't score hardly any goals. Even if he played in a front two with a decent striker his quality in the final third wasn't anywhere near good enough.

We need technically good midfielders and strikers with an eye for goal, and the last seven years suggests we are unable to pay what's required for these type of players.

We shall see.
I don’t think we have fans who like watching “shit”. What we do have are a small minority of fans who marched against Toss and Robber and whose mates are now owning and running the club. Consequently any shit will do if we can afford it, and if it keeps us flirting with the play offs. It’s a stitch up.

True but -
2017/18 -imagine Keates original plan was to play Mackreth but his fitness issues meant no alternative to Rutherford.
2018/19-Ricketts preferred JMD but a fallout and issues reinstated Rutherford. Imagine resigned on Darlington advice anyway as Ricketts had limited knowledge of squad.Hinds might have been preferred too had he not had his issue.
2019/20-apart from bargain basement salary no logical basis to re-sign.Last few weeks of season Yosser dropped him a few times and I thought the light had finally been seen.Reprieved but not on basis of goals, assists or pace even. Do not get the thought process.

The issue around goals wasn't because we had Beavon in the team it was the system. I personally wouldn't play him up front, I would play him behind the strikers as he has the ability to hold the ball and bring others into play.

The problems of the last few seaons go beyond a lack of goals from our front players. It's been about style of play. Look at Boden, away from our restrictive football he has being scoring regularly. I personally would have kept Boden and said so at the time as he was technically a good player but was judged solely on goals by many on here. Now he is playing a system that suits his game he is doing well. Beavon won't get the same number of goals as Boden did this seaon but he will add a link between midfield and the front players if we play football rather than long ball.

As an attacking option and value for money long and short term a passenger IMO. Yes probably the most efffective but surely we want to move on.
No wonder we’re stuck down here with this justification. Priceless.
