When has the club spun anything about McCallum?

Don’t remember anything official about Cook and Rowe. What was said? Or was it whispers and leaks from a board meeting that someone’s uncle went to?

McCallum likely league bound as I would expect him to have been on a decent contract at Eastleigh given previous ownership.

Highly unlikely he is on our radar unlike Cook and Rowe. I think the famous 'Wrexileaks' said we had bid for both but we don't know the exact details. It was said £50k for Rowe which we know was totally out of touch with reality.

We don't know BH shopping list but lets hope for improvements.

Buying this elusive 'proven goalscorer' is really hard in this league. If you look at the players who scored 20+ goals last season you only have to look at their backgrounds to show that.

Rowe has been at Fylde forever and at this point why would he move to another national league team? He's had offers from league teams and seems happy to stay where he is.

McCallum has been at Eastleigh for 2 seasons, only got 8 the season before and prior to that had an OK but not spectacular scoring record mostly in the League.

Bonne had a pretty poor goalscoring record prior to joining Orient. 3 goals the season before (including a 1 goal spell on loan to Lincoln in our division) his best goalscoring season for Colchester was 9 but that included 4 goals against Wealdstone in the FA Cup. If we signed a player with his record what would some fans say?

Boden was considered not good enough by a large section of our fans. Despite having one of the best goalscoring records of all the players in this list. Our system the season he was with us is probably largely to blame, but I also wonder how significant his difficult year in Scotland was. Maybe he needed to be managed better?

Rooney- huge wages, big signing out of reach of any other national league club.

It's such an inexact science. We need to take chances on players and not all of them will work out , but we need to scout people properly to earmark players who could become that 20 goal guy. It seems clear that we started last season without that player who would have potentially become our main striker. I'm pretty sure Beavon was signed in the supporting role, and surely if you'd seen Fondop you'd only sign him as a player with potential? JMD and Hines make sense as wingers/wide forwards.

Next season we have Mike, but we also have Oswell who could potentially be the goal scorer, but we need to play to his strengths. I personally hope he isn't the only player we are pinning our hopes on to score goals because that's a lot of pressure to put in him. We also need to maximise our chances by playing in a way that creates chances. That hasn't been happening.

ER, its about structure though isnt it.
Complete random with no formation or plan on how to play just makes a mockery of any recruitment. Just my opinions/thoughts on this.

Fondop signing quite bizarre as he needed an experienced head with him in a front 2.
A front 2 needs the width from 2 attacking FBs and 2 hard working LM and RM.
Alternatively recruit for a 433 which needs better FBs and also a passing midfield that are comfortable on the ball. Front 3 need to rotate positions more which was something Grant, Beavon and Ruthers were poor at between them. Tollitt did provide some pace at 1 point.

Buying Rowe, Cook or anyone at this level is pointless without other players who can play with them. Thats why we struggled for goals, we had too much of the same. Its about balance.

Absolutely. It doesn't matter who we buy right now as they would be on a hiding to nothing with our tactics, if we persist with them. Hopefully BH settles on a new way of playing which makes us more expansive and brings in players who can play that way. Currently, as you say, there is no balance in the team. An Oswell or even a Fondop might be OK with the right players alongside them, playing the right way.

Graham Barrow waa quoted some where that the no 1 Summer target was Oswell so i guess plan A was to play Fondop and Oswell as a pair
