Default Fundamental for next season

For me changing the way we play is a bigger issue than the players we need to sign.We have to change our way of playing so that we can create opportunities from open play rather than just hoping to snatch a goal from a set piece. The fact we only won 2 I gather penalties in the season gives an indicator of how many runs we made into the opposition penalty area.
We do need better strikers next season as Grant with his laziness and failure to hit the net with rare opportunities and Holroyd with his lack of threat to the opposition have shown this. However there have been several matches where our much maligned forwards have not even missed chances as they were not there to miss.
By now majority on here now who needs to go (CD) to facilitate a change of approach on the field .Only thing fans can do is bang the drum enough so eventually board see this. When will they see this is the question ?

A striker of similar standing as Shaun Pearson. Maybe coming down from the football league searching for a 2 or 3 year deal. Saying that, a player like Grant ticks those boxes in his profile.

Grant ,pedigree and stats wise did tick the boxes. However the weight he was carrying, lack of running and general demeanour made him a huge disappointment. The above factors probably contributed to his profligacy in front of goal too.We saw this in his loan spell but still signed him-given only scored once on loan we signed him on his past record rather than current form/situation.

It's difficult to work out how good/bad our current strikers would be in a more attack minded side,re Boden for example last season and how he is now.As you've pointed out the real problem has to change his stance or go.

They generally cost more money up that end of the field. Hence why we set out to sign cook, and settle with the likes of Fondop.

Again in theory we should have been able to afford a quality striker this season as no way Grant came here for peanuts and add Stockton's wage to it there would have been a decent weekly salary.
Alongside a more attacking approach do need midfielders who can pass forward too to create the chances for the strikers. Again if Yosser not allowed to change our approach by Big Boss Darlo he is totally undermined and is a sitting duck given his job title.

Oswell cost a big fee for this division and is on a good wedge, doesn't guarantee goals

I’d like to think there’ll be some kind of internal review. It’s not all been negative. Our defence has been pretty good this year and that’s without Manny Smith.

But matters for review should be the lack of goals. Also, the signing of Mike Fondop. Was that purely on Rickett’s say so? If so, fair enough. You have to back your manager.

It’s not as if we’ve not had proven strikers at the club. Beavon, Holroyd and Oswell have all scored goals at various levels.

One point for review is the volume of loan signings; some of which we never actually saw. However, I don’t know if we paid 100% of their wages or what. Certainly the loan signings bolstered the squad where youth team players previously would.

Some were great (Walker, Tollitt, Lawlor (before we signed him). The likes of Pyke and Maguire-Drew flattered but I liked them a lot. Others were just a waste of space. Maybe if we had another loan player to plug the hole left from Summerfield and Walker getting injured, our run-in might have been better.

I think your first paragraph is connected to our lack of goals. Yes great defence cannot be denied but it's not just down to the defenders it's down to defending as a team.

At home we sit that deep in midfield it's no wonder we don't create many goal scoring chances, because playing with a lone striker who most of the time was Beavon and then passing it around at the back and across the defensive minded midfield, before aimlessly launching it forward which most of the time the big bruisers defenders for the opposition lap up creates nothing.

And when Beavon or whoever the lone striker won it their was no other players near him, that's fine if you attacking midfielders with pace which we don't or a fellow striker with the above.
