Irrespective of what Individual members / non members think, there are a set of rules governing all aspects of the trust. You suggest that the regular backers would close ranks. This would only be true if they thought the proposal was not worth considering, ie. They were satisfied with how things are. All things change from time to time and can start with the forthcoming elections to the trust board. |

Re: The board
There will be no challenge to the elections, there will be no challenge to the WST.
It would be seen as a mini revolution, it would receive little support and there isnt the inclination in the fan base to want to run the club. The WST and football boards will take a neutral stance to the January fiasco and just keep quiet behind the closed ranks. Doubtful the consortium has any credence so its basically a status quo. The WST board comfortable with their minimal effort and leave things as they are approach and the football board happy to have their egos massaged on match days. No strategies, no plans and a hope attendances exceed budget. The wheels turn as slowly as they always have and another painful recruitment process with the proclamation that all the better players are available at the very end. Heard it here in May. |

Re: The board
The Constitution allows for 7 WAFC Board members , of whom 4 must be WST representatives. We have only had a maximum 3 non-WST members in the early years with Don Bircham, Barry Horne , and Alan Watkin. All brought unique skills to the table. Since their departure only Phil Salmon has been co-opted. Phil is an established businessman who also has the gift of being able to communicate with other business people and fellow fans without coming across ..... a criticism I hear regularly about others on the board .......as aloof or patronising. No-one doubts the commitment , or hard work put in , of anyone on the board. What is hard to understand is why we don't capitalise on others out there who could add extra skills and knowledge. The obvious gap lies in football expertise but fellow RPs could surely suggest other specialist skills which would be beneficial.

Re: The board
You run a business.
A small percentage of your customers criticise the way that you operate, more in the hope of influencing others to have similar opinions than to make a success of the business. You give them every opportunity to write to you with their ideas, and you run face-to-face meetings at which they can voice their opinions. They don't take advantage of these. Some are shy and retiring people, embarrassed to face the club's directors and management with the questions and opinions they want to make. Over a period, you start to realise that these few people are more interested in criticising you and your club in a pub with their mates, or sitting behind an anonymous keyboard than working with you. If they can't be bothered to engage with you, are their opinions serious enough to be considered? Some of your contacts tell you that it is the same few names that criticise you all the time. Despite their opinions, your business improves each year, little by little, and the vast majority of your customers support you wholeheartedly, buying from you in greater numbers every year. Sadly, some of the products that your business markets aren't as good as you were promised. Because of that, you change your stock in the interest of providing your customers with what they want. Your managers sometimes let you down. the ones that are even slightly successful want better jobs with more pay, and leave you before they have truly proved their worth. Your customers blame you for this, saying that you should pay the managers more, and that you want to see managers that have been more successful elsewhere, even though they want even more money to join you than the ones who left were being paid by their new employers. You narrowly miss an award for the two most successful businesses in your field, and this was because one of the judges made several wrong decisions that went in your competitor's favour - even though that competitor had been seen cheating. You invite your customers to review the last year with you, hoping that you can find common ground to take your business forward - after all they are all shareholders. How many will turn up this time? Best wishes, Carly Simon. (Hums "if you think this song is about you....") |
