The main purpose of friendlies is to get the players match-ready after all isn't it?
That and generating income.

Yeah the Pogba who was sat in the paddock several times watching his brother. Fair play to him he came to support his brother before he himself had made it in to first team

Purposes of friendlies would be revenue, testing ourselves at a standard or possibly a favour for a local or linked team.

Agree. It’s a case of getting the right balance.

I suppose the initial games are just a glorified training session so we can play the locks teams just as a chance to play a game as an XI. Let the fans see new signings etc. Then play better opposition as the summer goes on. I agree there seems more value playing teams at this level or similar (League 2 maybe or decent NLN teams) to prepare for the league.

Agree there is a big element for match sharpness but you would also take a 8-0 battering from Liverpool if it brought an extra £50k to transfer budget

Based on our recruitment policy of recent years it would be wasted anyway.

I think league 2 and conference north teams should be our friendlies.

Happy with one 'glamour' game though.
