The Board backed a manager who did not want the job. They allowed(persuaded?) him to continue in post until the January window shut.
They put him up at a meet the manager meeting despite knowing he did not want the job, without informing the WST board.
Is the club that wouldn't play ball the rumoured £50k bid for Danny Rowe? If so I would bet that Fylde laughed that out of the door.
January was a catastrophic failure. Simple as that.

Indeed.

There's no spinning this.

January effectively killed our season due to poor decision making from the board.
The problem we have is that with any successful fans owned club we don't have a full-time employed chief executive, its OK having a P/T board but over the past few years they've shown they are not up to the job, now whether this is due to other work commitments or not I don't know but now we have the money in place let's hope Spencer et al will step aside and do what's right for the club for once.

On the footballing side we're almost entirely part-time. The only full timer I can see is Hughes.

Darlington, Flynn, Jaaskelainen are all part-time. In addition apparently Flynn only scouts and gives advice, and is only with us one day a week. He looks more like a publicity stunt to me.

Hughes must be outstanding not to need a proper assistant.

The league table. Not many “garbage” teams finish 4th in a table of 24.

The end goal was not achieved. Finishing 4th means nothing.

I appreciate that but it’s harsh to say we were garbage considering we won 25 league games. Imagine if we’d won 20. You and others would be incandescent with rage...if you’re not already.

This is wrong, as was explained at a Trust meeting not long after he left:

1. He told the board he didn't want the job
2. They began the search for another manager
3. He approached the Club board and said he'd changed his mind, he wanted the job
4. We'd just had 2 of the best performances of the season against Newport & Salford
5. The players backed him
6. The Club board appointed him
7. Weeks later he approached the board and said he had to resign as manager for personal reasons

As much as people want to beat the club board up, almost everyone would have done the same things in the same situation. If people are saying they should have said no to him when he said he wanted the job then frankly, that's just someone with 20/20 hindsight!
