Rank the Rivals

Given that its Newport v Tranmere for a place in League 2 today its sparked a debate about who Wrexham fans would prefer to go up

For me I'd much prefer Tranmere to go up. I just don't consider the rivaly to be that intense, don't know why. I guess it depends when you were born and when you started supporting the town

So how would everyone rank our rivals?

I'd say

1.) Chester
2.) Shrewsbury
3.) Port Vale
4.) Stockport
5.) Newport

Tranmere, Crewe, Cardiff, Swansea, Wallsall - any other mentions?

I'm struggling with this one ?

Rivals in what respect ? Geography dictates if you mean derby rivalry and "local bragging rights" so why would Newport be on your list but Tranmere not ?

Tranmere up over Newport all day long.

In terms of rivals I oy really consider Chester to be our local rivals, and to a lesser extent Shrewsbury I suppose. That's it though.

Lol.....since when did Newport become a local rival to Wrexham ?

They're 4 hours drive away. You can get to London faster

When we are talking about local rivalry the top 2 have always been and always will be :

1. Chester
2. Shrewsbury

You can then start to argue Tranmere, Crewe etc......but for me that's it

Donít really mind Tranmere, some decent away days, and friendly banter. Feel like in a squeeze theyíd help us out, have loaned us players etc. Get decent gates.

Newport, tinpot club who got lucky in the play off final.

A rivalry doesn't mean exclusively local. Derby means local

Just which teams do you dislike most, which fixtures against certain clubsare more than just standard games?

Re: Rank the Rivals

Think I’d prefer Newport to go up as they’re Welsh whereas Tranmere are wannabe scousers.

I’ve always seen Newport as a bit of a nothing team though, ranking a distant third in the Welsh rivalry stakes. Does our rivalry with them just stem from them beating us in the play offs? I doubt that we register much with their fans, unless I’m missing something?

Don't think the original poster said local.
People dislike Newport since the playoff final and that away game where we spent the whole game being pelted with objects by their idiots , although a few of our idiots were encouraging them.

We haven't played Shrewsbury for 11 years. They've got a new stadium and quality new training ground, narrowly missed out on a place in the championship and have hosted several premier league teams in the last few seasons in the cup.
How have they managed that without being bled dry by private investors?? 🤔 That's what they all do isn't it?

You got your preference today, canít say Iím sorry about Newport losing to a late goal, what goes around comes around.

For me Chester always number one rivals, having supported Wrexham in the 60s and 70s then Port Vale would be up there for me. Some really bad tempered matches with them and damage from their fans

Re: Rank the Rivals

For me it is:

Bin dippers - hate the games especially recently.
Cardiff - era related and many games especially old welsh cup.
Slops - used to be a good away day.
Crewe, Vale, Stockport and other locals not so much a rivalry just a better type of game.

Now we have all sorts of localish teams and we struggle against them.
Telford, Alty, Macc, Southport.......at times embarrasing.

Well Vale are in a dip and have some poor players, Crewe will always yoyo a bit with form but well run and with good network.
Expect Slops to improve a bit as well.

We need to go up to get these fixtures again but it gets tougher.
