Once you get to the Premier League level there are of course more anomalies because TV funding is so huge and rich owners are so prevalent. But even so. Are Bournemouth or Burnley likely to win the league soon?

Of course not they can't compete moneywise with the top clubs but they are playing and watching good football at a level we will never see again.

If you take the NL then a couple of teams have silly money to throw at it and then the budgets hopefully start to rank with club size.
Its how it is spent then that is the big factor.

Solihull paying way above their income grade, Bromley seem to be the same, Fylde as well. Then you have Harrogate funded but not to the same extent and looks like Barrow have also attracted some outside money. Obviously Eastleighs went north

Then as you would expect us, Chesterfield, Pools and add Stockport to that all with over 3,000 averages. It then comes down to good decision making, like I said in January go and raid Gateshead for 2 players whilst they had money problems. They had some decent players and were up there.

Bigger crowds would give us another January ‘pot’ but what happens then

Potentially a big rebuild so you may get a season of struggle from us next year which I'm sure will keep some happy! Alternatively if Flynn stays I imagine the players will stay too. It all depends on the manager really: some people are suggesting Swansea although I'd be surprised by that.
Putting personel differences to one side for a minute, your manager has done a fantastic job there and from the outside looking in, looks like he has 'it'. I'd be surprised not to see him progress up the leagues. We all hope our own left field appointment has a similar effect.

Interesting scenario. Pedigree/history in the game accounts for nowt and big crowds are great to play in front of (if you are winning/entertaining). We are fast becoming an anomaly in the NL. Why do wealthy football guys choose to sink their cash into Solihull and Bromley, when surely supporting an ex league team with tradition and following would be a sounder bet?
I don’t expect us to a Wimbledon (of the 80’s) and hit the Premier heights, that would not be possible or sustainable, but we are surely better than where are at present? It requires good management and a slice of luck to get us back to Division 2, but I cannot see it without a degree of outside investment.
It’s easy to cynical or over cautious about this, but we have to get back on the horse. It’s a bit like being shafted in a marriage - it shouldn’t stop us looking for another partner. They are not all the same!

Is it though? Or does it give you faith that when we can finally get out of this pit we could follow the same path and flourish ourselves!

I'd be more worried/depressed if you saw the teams that go up bombing straight back down every season.

Lincoln, Tranmere, Newport and Mansfield should give us faith that a well run club off the field of similar size to us can thrive.

I think it gives hope rather than faith that we could improve our position.
The key is this first step, if we can get back to the fancy trimmings of the league I feel we could push on and be bigger than we could imagine.

How many of those clubs progressed without some significant investment?

To be honest, I don't know.....do you?

I know Lincoln and Newport have benefitted from cup runs lately, I would have thought that would only be pulling Newport up to the level we could be at though.

Tranmere are a big club for that level anyway so presumably one of the bigger budgets, no idea on Mansfield.

Maybe its because there's so many obstacles put in the way and maybe its because the current board don't want to lose their power and control. When the initial discussions have taken place lord only knows what's said and what kind of attitude is shown. It doesn't make any sense for someone to choose Solihull or Bromley over Wrexham. So there must be other factors.

As I have said previously if a consortium Bryn Law says are legit are treated with suspicion and hostility (without foundation) then its shows that we have become our own worst enemy to a certain extent. Too many fans stuck in the past and still as paranoid as ever.
