Honestly, blaming an increase in violence on Brexit!

I'm sure that's the first thing on their mind as the knife goes in - nothing to do with drug wars, county lines, etc.
As said numerous times before, Arfon Jones should leave the operational policing to the local Police Commander and his staff.

Total scaremongering of the highest order.

Vorporix - any pre planned high risk derby match which requires high numbers of police officers is not met by 'overtime'.
Police officers have their rest days cancelled - the rest days are re scheduled to another date. That's not to say that there could be overtime incurred at additional to normal work hours which is at a far less expensive rate than rest day rate.

Regardless of the overtime issue which is really a smokescreen - the club(s) are charged a set fee based on how many officers of varying ranks are required 'within' the precepts of the stadium x the number of hours they are required. This is usually agreed between the clubs and the local police prior to the commencement of each season and probably included in a mutual 'statement of intent' which should be a written agreement between both parties and which is a component to the stadium safety certificate.

It does not necessarily mean that all staff required are paid for - this is a point of negotiation between club and police. The other aspect to consider is the potential high numbers of police officers required to police outside and beyond the stadium - perhaps railway stations, licensed premises, historical flashpoints - police staff under these circumstances are generally not paid for by the club(s) despite, some would argue there would be no need for them on a normal day if it wasn't for the football match taking place.

There has been much comment on RP in recent years over the presence of Security Staff inside the stadium on match day. This is now common at many sporting stadia including horse racing - where security staff numbers have increased and police numbers have reduced - this is in reality a compromise - security staff will cost much less but their attendance provides an opportunity for inclusion within the safety certificate that although police numbers are reduced their is an alternative body there to support the stewards with the ability to respond with SIA trained staff if and when required.

He's doing the job he was elected to do, if he's not popular he can be voted out.
I like the fact we have a fan in a senior position looking out for clubs and fans.

I was talking about 'in his day' but presumably it was the same then.

So thanks - I stand corrected.
