Re: Transfer rumours, speculation & associated discussion - summer 2019 II
Quote:
BRYAN HUGHES is looking to make "four or five" more signings before the season starts. Striker Leighton McIntosh has become the first new arrival of the summer after leaving Scottish League One side Airdrie, putting pen to paper on a one-year deal at The Racecourse. Hughes already had 16 players under contract for next season, including first year pros Matty Sargent and Jack Thorn, while there is still a deal on the table for injured midfielder Luke Summerfield. Having stated that he would like a 22-man squad for Wrexham's 12th season in non-league, Hughes still has a few spots to fill before he completes his quota of players. "I have been good with regards to my retained list and we have got the nucleus of the squad staying which helps us build," said Hughes. "We have been close the last couple of seasons and now it is adding in certain areas, whether it is forward positions, defensive positions or midfield positions, just to try and help the players that we have got and maybe bring a little bit more quality, pace and power to the team. "I am looking for another four or five maybe just to finish off the squad and look forward to the start of the season, and hit the ground running." McIntosh, who can also play as a winger, began his career at Dundee and had prolific spells with Peterhead and Arbroath before signing for Airdrie last summer, and he finished the 2018-19 campaign as the club's top scorer with 17 goals. Despite challenging for promotion last season, Wrexham only scored 58 goals in 46 league games as Shaun Pearson, Akil Wright, Fondop and Stuart Beavon all struck six times to share the leading scorer award, and Hughes hopes McIntosh can help address those shortcomings. "I am delighted to sign Leighton who will add to what we have already got at the club," said Hughes. "It is an area of the pitch that I have identified that we want to improve and give us something different, and he will bring that to the table. "He has got pace, has got power, he is brave, and he can play on the wings as well as a striker so he adds a good flavour to our mix." Hughes believes McIntosh will be looking forward to the challenge of proving himself in the National League. "He is a good age," said Hughes. "He is 26 and when he was learning his trade he had things that might not have gone right for him but he has picked himself up the last three years or so. "He has scored plenty of goals, he has got a good goals-a-game ratio and now it is a good step for him. "From our point of view, we have got an identified talent that might have just gone under the radar. "He has been making good noises up in Scotland and now I am delighted that he is with us." |

Appreciate there is a case of "well, what can he say really" but Hughes interviews are all so nonsense. Adds flavour to the mix in an area we needed etc etc.
I am still curious about the cb position. Lawlor, Pearson, Tharme and Manny. Is Manny able to play? |

Re: Transfer rumours, speculation & associated discussion - summer 2019 II
It was only last week he was saying he was close to signing a few players and there's no mention of that now. Must have fallen through.
I'm not that worried yet but if he still hasn't signed some real proven quality by the start of July then I think we all know what's coming. A panic driven N'Tame type signing towards the end of the summer. |

A source on here who was bang on about Mcintosh says we're signing a defender, initials CR. Fantastic
