I suspect BH would accept he got team selection wrong for that game, switching to 442 after a run of mixed results, granted 3 midfielders were out injured. Barrow did play the conditions extremely well but starting with 2 in midfield and 2 wingers in McGlashan & Tollitt, was a step to far in an attempt to be more progressive. Despite opinion on here the team relied heavily last season on Rutherford's work rate and taking him out of the starting 11 was a mistake and he should have started with Young & Wright in centre mid.

Hindsight is great, but I think many if us were a little worried before kick off, except the usual Ruthers knickers who thought it was a positive move.

The first 3 matches will really test us Dover , B Wood and Dover.
How many points will we get there 4 maybe ?
Jesus we aren’t doing anything this season if we think we will get 4 points from those games. Beat both Dover and BW away last season so no reason to think we can’t again with a better team on paper and we should be looking at winning all our home games.

Newsflash!

Rutherford's job is to create and score goals in the position he plays. He rarely does either. Look at his stats. Case closed.

Quality players that can make a difference will determine where we end up.
Versatility, the ability to vary the style of play home and away comes with certain types of players who have character and leadership.
Far too much emphasis and responsibility is heaped on the shoulders of Pearson.
Defence and keeper positions largely sorted.
Right back still required - whether this turns out to be Barnum - Bobb we will have to see.

Lack of creativity and leadership in the middle of the field hasn't changed over a number of seasons - we need a tiger in there and I still don't think it has been addressed - someone like Perkins or Harris from Tranmere's team of last season.

Then there is the need to have not one but TWO regular goalscorers to share the load - and enough strength on the bench to enable us to bring on substitutions to make that vital difference in the closing stages of a game. We need 16 players who can do the business - and not looking at the bench thinking there's nothing there that can change a game.

Gradually we should then build on the squad bit by bit - unfortunately there has been far too much disruption at management level and the playing squad in the last year or so - whilst Fylde and Solihull are building.

Having a good defence only gets you so far - ultimately goals are what the game is about - I feel defence has been treated as an unbalance priority over the ability to attack and fear it is ingrained in the squad mentality - we need to get out there and ramp up the goals for column - hopefully the entertainment factor will then also creep up because it has been mind numbingly boring in recent times.

True but his work rate was needed in midfield that night, a massive blow losing a home game at that stage of the season.

Old news!

If you don't work hard and win your battles in midfield you get beat.

Please. If you're suggesting that Rutherford running around a lot and achieving next to nothing (what he always does - try watching him) would have made any difference that night I suggest you get back to earth pronto.

Its just pure fantasy and he doesn't even play in midfield.

Have to agree to disagree on this one, and with the benefit of hindsight, without Summerfield & Walker, a 3 man midfield that night including Rutherford's workrate would have given us more chance than playing Tollitt & McGlashan. It was obvious by half time and hence the early change from BH.

Let’s hope that BH learned his lesson that night and a few decent footballers in his side have to be supplemented by some hard grafters.
The Barrow game will be an early test..
