Re: Gareth Davies - 'Skips new knee'
Just had an update on this through the GoFundMe page:-
TODAY by Chris Braisdell, Organiser Good Morning!! Just and update on the fundraiser, Gareth has now had his new knee and is recovering well, although his memory is getting much worse than it was unfortunately! We're now going to donate the remainder of the funds to the Alzheimer's Society as a result as this is also a charity close to our hearts. Thank you all for the support, we couldn't have done this without you all! Best wishes Gareth!

Re: Gareth Davies - 'Skips new knee'
The new knee should improve his quality of life and palliative care.
Dealing with any dementia/Alzheimers will be far tougher so good luck with additional care.

Re: Gareth Davies - 'Skips new knee'
it's great news that Gareth's knee has been sorted - but I can't help but think about the comparison with the late Jeff Astle who was a centre forward for West Bromwich Albion - he suffered in later years from memory loss which his family were convinced was caused by repeatedly heading footballs - Gareth being a centre back must have generated similar repeated head to ball contact over many years - specifically it would be interesting to see if research into alzheimers in footballers is more prevalent than the general public - I played centre half / centre forward in my youth - heading a ball repeatedly kicked from both keepers at height can't do you much good - not to mention the occasional clash of heads.

Re: Gareth Davies - 'Skips new knee'
The title of the thread could be clearer.
It currently appears he has skipped a new knee and just needs to say skippers new knee.

Re: Gareth Davies - 'Skips new knee'
As someone who has had 2 new knees, I can only sympathise. Especially since a big part of the recovery requires great care and attention for someone who needs to be reminded about doing things like exercising the new knee and just remembering to move as often as possible.
Good luck to Gareth and hope that it all turns out well. |
