His role was to constantly get caught out of position, last ditch tackles/fouls and constantly give the ball away.

'<insert any player who played in the position you are referring to> role'

or in 99% of people's cases they would just say 'defensive midfielder' for the wedgebury role.

Could have alot fun with the 'Ruthers' role, apply it to someone who works hard and runs alot

He was loved on RP though...... wedgebury got bypassed against the better teams. Just not good enough.

I would say Wedgebury is better in any midfield position than Summerfield&Young.

I wonder what formation BH is going to start the season with. He's toyed with these three centre half, wing-back and inside forward or the modern word number 10 role.

I don't think we have the personnel for the wing-back role at present. Most likely the starting 11 against Crewe will start the Barrow game with the exception of injuries and the indications of a pattern of play. I would think the usual 433, so, this brings me to the point of why play wing-backs in most of the friendlies, why not jig the 433 up a bit with different players.

Just to be clear Im talking about the role as opposed to saying he plays like Wedgbury / thought that was obvious ?

Well I dread to think of the reaction if he gets his formation and selection wrong at home to Barrow first game.
They will set up solid and standard thats for sure.

We'll lose because its Barrow at home. Its an absolute given. We should lump every penny the club has on it.

Actually, Ive changed my mind. Playing Barrow first up is the ideal time to play them as opposed to a cold Tuesday night when its blowing a gale.

Without looking at the stats, weve got a pretty good first game of the season record. I could be wrong. Perhaps Im basing on the Stevenage game 11 years ago when we all thought non league would be a piece of piss.

Weve lost once on the opening day in the Conference, at Bromley (aka the Mason Watkins-Clarke show).

The scheduling and pacing of their games just seems really odd, as of whoever was booking the games was loading with the managers at all . Like having to play Dulwich 40 minutes after they got off their coach from Cornwall. And playing a good Wigan side for their first friendly. With our there seems to be an obvious progression and sense behind the games picked. Maybe you'd swap around Stoke and Curzon but that's probably more to do with Stokes availability than anything.
