Wrexham AFC are pleased to confirm goalkeeper Dawid Szczepaniak has signed a one-year contract with the club following his successful trial.

Szczepaniak, 19, has spent the summer training with the first-team and featured in several pre-season friendlies.

Born in Poland, Szczepaniak moved to Wrexham aged 15 and lives locally, but spent last season with Morecambe in League Two.

The goalkeeper has also previously trained with Wrexham and played with Airbus UK Broughton, and will wear the number 31 jersey.

On joining Wrexham AFC, Szczepaniak said: “I’m very happy that I have signed a contract because I know I can better myself here and I can’t wait.

“I know I can improve with Michael Oakes, Rob Lainton and Christian Dibble, if I’m going to train with them every day and watch them.

“I’m so happy I’m here at Wrexham. I gained confidence playing every week in pre-season. I am more confident now, that’s the main thing.”

Manager Bryan Hughes added: “Dawid’s come in on trial and he’s done well. He’s a good age and a good size and he’s had a bit of experience with Morecambe last season.

“He’s someone that we can develop, potentially send on loan to get game time and also give us a bit more security in the goalkeeping department.

“He’s keen, he’s eager. One of the biggest things is he lives locally as well – that’s a big plus. I was aware of him last season and I’m delighted to have him on board.”

Budget must be alright if we can afford three keepers.

He's probably very cheap and will only be cover for our two main keepers who both have a tendency to get injured.

BH says he may end up out on loan so that will offset some of his wages too.

Happy with this. Will definitely be 3rd choice, but will be relatively cheap and an option should worst come to worst and both Dibble and Lainton get sidelined at the same time. Not a signing that'll win us the league, but gives us a contingency plan.

Couldn't be further away from an erection with this signing.

I wish we had used the money to secure Noah Daley on a 2-3 year deal and loaned him out to a South Wales side until he was 18.

Not sure many fans have ever got a boner from their club signing a cheap 3rd choice keeper but a necessary evil with Lainton injured
