That's probably my biggest fear. I don't think it will be down to bad players but more bad tactics. I think the squad has improved but if the game plan hasnt, then very little will change. Get the balance right this season, we'll be in with a shout.

Of course you have a point but unless we forget we were only 5 points off the top last season so the formula cannot have been too far off ? We all wanted better quality up front and behind the front men and IMO in Hooper and Redmond we have that which will hopefully tip the balance in our favour.

It wasn’t far off but in the big games it showed up.

Again of course you have a valid point but my view of league campaigns has always been the same - Make sure you win the bread and Butter games and then enjoy the big ones. We need JJ to grab a brace away to Dover or Borehamwood and for Redmond to shine at Aldershot in a 3-1 win then we can see what happens against Chesterfield or Solihull. My point was that to be fair to the management team they appear at least to have identified and addressed the areas that concerned most of us. Yes I would like a left wing back and maybe another midfielder but I am looking forward to tomorrow. COYR

Agree - and that's the difference between finishing top and being in a play off position.

For me the ambition is in three parts.

You have to have good home form and win the games your expected to from which you gain your maximum point haul.

To compete at the top a team needs decent form away from home - to be able to go away from home and pick up wins - something that has left us down badly in contrast to our home form - those 3 points tot up massively at the end of the season - settling for a draw with a mind set not to be beaten is not enough.

To win a higher ratio of what I term 6 pointers - those games against out title rivals where the winner clocks 3 points to their total and in reality takes 3 off the opposition - Leyton Orient did the double on us last season - but it's being going on for a number of seasons - we have yet to score a goal v AFC Fylde or even beat them in 6 league games since they joined the National League.

Looking at our first set of 6 games and its a tough start for us. We need to be defensively as tight this season but be able to score more. Your right about those 6 point games. Last season we did get it right at home against Salford (and how!!!) and a hard fought victory over Solihull.

IMHO it going to come down to the midfield. If we resort to long balls pumped in or Summerfield killing the game with slow distribution then its going to be more of last season.

Tomorrow will be a stern test against a bogey side. Come 5 we will know a lot more about how the season will go.

We need every player to take responsibility for scoring and creating more goals.

The trouble was weren't set up in a way that meant we would score enough goals to consistently beat good sides (the Salford at home freak result is the exception). Therefore we were always set up to fail in the play offs

Not sure I totally follow that - as Clough once said 'if you don't concede you wont lose many games' Having said that you are correct as was FOG and we need to score more. My only point was that defensively we are ok we just need to get the scoring right.
