Default Barrow (H) Ratings

First game of the season, chance to post first impressions of the lads in a competitive game.

Dibble - 7. Not at fault for the goal, made a fantastic save from a one-on-one first half. Otherwise comfortable in everything he did.
Carrington - 7. Solid, had his hands full and didn't make any mistakes.
Lawlor - 6. He didn't like the counter attacking Barrow did but dealt with most threats. Definitely more exposed in the new system but handled himself well for the most part.
Pearson - 6. First half he was getting frustrated - and the high through ball to Harris he tried 5 or 6 times wasn't very successful, but steadied the ship with the late pressure from Barrow. Captain fantastic as always - going to go down as one of the best captains we've ever had.
Jennings - 7. Pushed to a 7 because his wherewithall to knock the ball across to Hooper for the 1st goal, but he had a hard time against Dior Angus, in fairness I thought Angus was Barrow's best attacking player.
Summerfield - 6. First half wasn't great for him, but second half was great, so giving him an 6 taking both into account.
Young - 6. Same as above really. 2nd half he really took the game by the scruff of the neck.
Redmond - 6. You can see he knows what he's doing, but sometimes shies away from the tackle. He has the talent to really make an impact though.
Grant - 7. Scored a goal, which will do his confidence a world of good. Thought he was twice the player tonight than at any stage last season, an in-form Grant could be the key this time around.
Harris - 6. Direct, caused problems but still has a little way to go. Seems an exciting talent though, one to watch - perhaps as an impact sub?
Hooper - 8. MOTM. Could have had 2 in the first half, but the 2nd half he was unplayable. Made Granite look weak and amateurish and was involved with both goals.

SUBS:
Rutherford - 5. Worked hard.
McIntosh - 6. Decent interplay, but most notably skied one into the Tech End.
Oswell - N/A. Not on long enough to fairly rate.

Overall, an exciting, attacking edge to our side but we rode our luck sometimes. However, these are the games promotion hopefuls win, the ones that really could have gone either way.

Dibble 6- didn't have much to do, should have done better with the goal possibly

Carrington 7- Decent, doesn't get forward as much as we need but that's not his game. Good performance

Pearson 7.5 and Lawlor 7- handled everything pretty well. They are more exposed in this system and will concede more but pretty solid

Jennings 6.5 - much better second half and handled Angus pretty well. Could have got forward more.

Young 7- Quiet first half but excellent second half
Summerfield 8- One of only a few to play well on both half's.
Redmond 6.5- Some great touches but looked a little lost particularly first half. There is a player there though.

Grant 6- Probably a 4 first half when he was awful. Good run and header for his goal and generally put himself about a lot more.

Harris 6.5- Decent runs and looks a good player. Loses half a point due to his wayward shooting

Hooper 8- Immense. Player we've been waiting for?

First half we had a lot of possession but overplayed it and players frequently looked lost. We were lucky not to be 2 or 3 down. Second half we were comfortably the better side and at times looked very good. A work in progress but we do look more attack minded
I also think Barrow will have a decent season and this will look like a good 3 points.

Dibble 7 the save was the turning point

Carrington 7 defended well
Lawlor 7 good blocks
Pearson 7 defended well, but his moaning at the ref was in full effect
Jennings 7 attacked well I thought

Young 6 in and out
Summerfield 8 when he played well, we played well.
Redmond 4 poor.

Grant 7 poor, but scored the winner.
Hooper 9 motm proper striker
Harris 7 showed moments but the game.passed him by a times

Subs

Rutherford he is tailor made to come off the bench in such scenarios
Oswell ran about for 2 minutes and stopped them getting out of their half
Bakare oh dear, hope he is not actually that bad

Dibble 7 good save, looks the part
Defence 6 apart from Carrington who I thought got forward well on a couple of occasions and looked very composed when he did 7
Young 6 good energy and improved as game went on
Summerfield 7 good all round player
Redmond 7 some good touches and really good passer of the ball. Don't think he will win many tackles but the playmaker we have been missing
Bobby Grant 7 can see a pass and has obvious quality. Seemed well up for it and thought he had a good game.
Harris 6 decent
Hooper 8 missed a couple before his goal which is a good sign that he didn't let his head drop.Great play for Grants goal and looked a handful 2 nd half

If Grant was a new signing people would be singing his praises today.
He’s had a solid preseason, was no worse than anyone else 1st half, and had a cracking game in the 2nd.
Well done to the lad, seems to do be doing well on his promise to play better this year.

True, not much came off for him first half, but showed his quality second half.

All in all a solid performance, good character to come from behind v Barrow. A few more questions defensively, not yet looking as solid as last season and Redmond looks a footballer but struggled a bit with the physicality of Barrow, after getting a knock first half.

Thought the much maligned Bobby Grant had a descent game. Got a good feeling about JJ.
