Wasn't it. Vardy-esque I thought.

We still have Wright, Barton and Sargent to press for a place and it would have to be a top quality player to dislodge Summers or Young currently. Redmond current seems to struggling a little but has shown his quality in pre-season.

Summerfield MOTM for me last night. Classy finish by Grant too for the second.
What does Ruther’s bring to the field to see a game out? He’s small, poor in the air and doesn’t tackle.

I take your point about the tiring Redmond - who in an attacking sense is a massive improvement on Wright.

Rutherford in my mind was not the right substitute to make.

There were a few occasions he came on last season where his energy and workrate got us on the front foot and gave us a lift and apart from that he can be relied on more than most not to give the ball away cheaply.

Energy and work rate alone do not make you a good footballer. We were never going to finish on the front foot away from home.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again.... had Ruthers left Wrexham in the summer, where would he of ended up realistically?

Southport or Chester would be my guess.

Those who were there will recognise the face in the pic... He had the dubious pleasure of sharing a post-match train journey with my son and his mates. Much banter was had, and he said he'd like us to win the league. They made him promise to be generous to us next time

For those who weren't there, he was running the line in front of our fans, and on the receiving end of some wholly impartial advice....

He took a lot of abuse, much of it undeserved, as did Smith who was fouled!

On a similar note I got chatting on my train back to the father of Boreham Wood's keeper. He was very complimentary about us and gave some interesting insight to the highs and lows of players at this level. Also said his lad was called a paedo by some of our fans, I was embarrassed but not surprised and just explained we have some slightly odd fans!
