WST Vice Chair

Well done to Sarah Smith Howard who challenged the status quo by standing for election for this post. The secret WST board ballot resulted in a tie between her and incumbent John Mills. Chairman Pete Jones used his casting vote to re-elect John. Those who would like to see more women involved in running our Club/WST will congratulate Sarah for her initiative and self-confidence in standing for election.

Maybe she can now concentrate on sorting out the membership issues that have been under her control for the past three years that seem to have got to the position that the WST are looking at outsourcing it all because its administration is so poor. They mention adding a possible membership development officer, which doesn't bode well for its current management.

It would be great to see a more diverse WST board, but you can't see anyone stepping forward? Female representation has always been low, for what ever reason, but I strongly believe the WST board should consist of those capable of running a business to provide club board members of quality. Otherwise you end up with a social media popularity contest and board members who have no idea on how to cope.

I don't care what colour suit or dress they wear, as long as they can do the job!

If it was secret, how do you know?

It's like a General Election. You don't know how individuals voted but you get the overall result. Check WST website.

If it was done right in the first place you wouldn't need anyone to administer it as it would be automated. Granted this costs a bit of money but you get what you pay for (or don't pay for) with volunteers, for all their goodwill and hard work it's not always the most optimal solution. Outsourcing it is only ever a good thing if its a means to an end where they can get it automated. Once that is achieved then human interaction is minimal for the membership side of things.

Automation depends on the complexity of the membership administration. There will always be a need for someone within the WST to manage the outsourcing. And i imagine, given the characters that we have as WST members, there will be resistance to interacting with a company that will have no empathy with them?

It does need sorting, but it should have been sorted years ago, rather than let it ride.
