Could it be argued that Grant exceeds the necessary use of force as the keeper had control of the ball, therefore being untouchable?

With the Welsh FA there's a chance of a reduction looking at those guidlines .

Exactly. If anyone thinks Grant used excessive force or brutality they need to go and watch netball. The only qualifying element of it was that he wasn't challenging for the ball. So never a red, ref should have just used common sense, booked him and had a stern word. A good ref would have, sadly we don't get good refs at this level.

He kicked him off the ball though. That's a red. A soft one sure, but its a red.

He wasn't off the ball though, the keeper has control of the ball.

If that happened in the centre circle to an outfield player, still a red? No it isn't. Countless examples of that. Like I said, common sense needs to be applied in these situations.

To be fair Phil, I don't think it's that simple of a comparison. In the centre, assuming the player is in possession, they can be challenged for the ball. However, when the keeper has the ball in hand he can't be challenged as he is considered to be in full control of the ball with his hands.

I do think it's a yellow, conflicting with my original view on it, as I think it falls under a reckless trip on the keeper.

The ball is in the keepers hands, its completely different. Why do people keep mentioning the centre circle, who is picking the ball up in the centre circle.

Its not a common sense issue because its a bit soft. Its still a red.

You simply cannot do that and expect not to get sent off. The keeper had the ball in both hands and he intentionally kicks out trips him over. If it happened to us we'd be calling for him to be sent off.
