Be careful who you tout your soul too there is always one taker at least.
No doubt there were very difficult decisions to make. Nobody denies that. Stagnating outside of the football league just adds to our demise every year.

Although not my preferred structure, I’m not completely against Trust ownership should we have a football club board that is accountable to the members of the trust.

There is no leader at the club. Spencer is the closest thing to a leader but he seems intent on running the club like a school fete. Numerous decisions have been poorly made and simply get brushed under the carpet - most notably the Andy Davies, Graham Barrow appointments.

Keep doing brain farts like that and we're going nowhere. But its not the mistakes that were made, it was the subsequent cover up, circling of wagons, lack of humility, zero apology or any admission that they cocked up. Just more bravado and bullshit spin.
Any fans with eyes open showed concern over the behaviour and self preservation tactics afterwards, which by the way will not be forgotten nor should it be. The fans who turn a blind eye and pretend everything is rosy, that's apathy or ignorance, take your pick.
Excellent post.

No one is saying it is rosy, just a few stick records, attempting to say it's all doom and gloom, when we have gone forward in the the last 3 years, despite some major blows and mistakes. It was the same all summer, claims that many had had enough and ST sales would be down and crowds would plummet, but the stats don't back it up.

With the pro/anti WST debate rumbling on, here is a great little story of a true football fan putting his winnings to a good cause. I am sure most Bury fans would welcome a similar saviour, but would we at WREXHAM?

Probably not. The still highly paranoid minority would run them out of town.

There’s no doubt increased dissatisfaction with the current model has occurred as a result of our fairly mediocre performance over the last 5 years. But as has been said above, it is entirely possible to like the ownership model, but not think the current board is doing a good job.

I like the fact we are fans-owned. It gives a sense of security about the club’s future which we haven’t always had and, after the experiences of the 00s, we deserve. But there can be little argument that the club has underperformed for 5 years and accountability for that ultimately rests with the board. Could anyone else have done better? Yes. But equally, they might have done worse. Either way, it’s not the fault of the model.

The only potential benefit of ownership by an individual (or two) is more money increasing our chances of success. The downside is less security (although it might only be a small amount less). But unless it is a lot of extra money, success will still depend on the board making the right decisions. We have been in decent positions in the last two seasons, so we aren’t so far away as to suggest that the ownership model is inevitably doomed to failure because it will never generate sufficient funds to make us competitive – we have been competitive.

I think a bit more ownership from the current board for underperformance and a plan to resolve it would help quell some of the debates about ownership. In the absence of that, the rational response would be to change the board.

We can only change the leadership of the WST, not the club board (although one may lead to another), but funnily enough, most people supporting the club want to watch football, not discuss governance! Also there are barriers to change – sufficient good quality candidates prepared to dedicate time to the club, but also sufficient information about what makes a good candidate to enable informed decisions. And an asymmetry of information about running the club making incumbents hard to remove. You wouldn’t look at it and say it was a model of a well-functioning democracy. This all creates the apathy towards making the only change we can (WST board).

Ultimately, success on the field is the best way to stop this debate. So let’s hope we get a bit more of that!

Or some would get entitled and question why they're only putting in say £1m when they've won £40m. I would do it anonymously if I had that kind of money.

Can you imagine if that happened here and like his club we only managed to finish 3rd. I can hear it now

"why's he not putting more into the club"

"no ambition"

"whys he spending money on cars when we need a striker"

I suppose your state of mind changes. 10 years ago, when we were in the mire, we all implored for the WST to take over the club.
