A few years ago Sinclair's tackle on Kearney (was it?) got the ball first but the momentum broke his leg. I don't think Lawlor's was as reckless as that though. |

Re: shocking lack of discipline
It's not a red for me, he won the ball with his right foot and he doesn't just jump/lunge in with both feet.

Re: shocking lack of discipline
No.
A brain fart by Grant at Dover. If we are going by a simple card count then Lawlor's 2 x reds have greatly exaggerated the situation - two red cards that have both caused significant debate and it could be argued were each marginal. However having returned from one red & suspension you would think Lawlor would have been ultra cautious on his return. I don't see any 'shocking' change in pattern to the number of yellow cards being picked up - however some silly cards could be avoided - but I don't see a crisis in discipline looming. |

Re: shocking lack of discipline
The Hartlepool club highlights give a better insight into Lawlor's red card than any alternative coverage.
What is evident is the position of the referee - very close and unobstructed view. A challenge from the side is perhaps less brutal - I think the situation hasn't helped Lawlor as his attempted lunge like tackle is directly into the path of the opposition player - I would even question the necessity to do such an act - initially he leaves the ground but by the time the attempt tackle is made it doesn't look so bad but he is always going to follow through the player because of his momentum and the 'head on' nature of the players coming into conflict. I have watched it a dozen times and can perhaps see why the ref has called it - but perhaps Lawlor has given him the decision to make in lunging in. Perhaps on another day it could have resulted in a yellow - we've all seen worse where no card has been branded. |

Re: shocking lack of discipline
He committed another poor tackle earlier on but got away with it. Poor technique and positional play than malice, but a Red Card, nevertheless.
