Re: Chesterfield home postponed

The year we won the Trophy I thought round by round the gods were on our sides - the greatest hurdle was probably Southport away. if the balls come out of the velvet bag in the right order it can just make that difference - what we want to avoid is the big guns and playing away from home - keep getting home draws against minnows and there is a more than fair chance we will progress - if we lose such a tie then it can't be said that we were offered a really good opportunity which we failed to take - but football as we all know is never so simple - the euphoria of beating Arsenal one year can contrast bitterly with a home defeat against Runcorn as I can readily recall. |

A few more bits of information. The Chesterfield official site under the heading fixtures shows what was our scheduled league game is now postponed PP - nothing else. We are still shown on our official club site as playing Chesterfield with a 5.20 pm KO - this is 3 clear days after the draw was completed. The SPFL specifically use the word 'confirmed' relating to our game v St Mirren Colts and the now 3.00 pm KO. Connahs Quay Nomads away tie at Partick Thistle is confirmed as taking place on the same day (Sat 12 Oct) with a 5.15 pm KO and has been selected for live tv coverage by S4C - Scottish TV Channel Alba is covering another tie but not ours. This competition prior to being sponsored by Tunnocks Caramel Wafer was known as the IRN BRU cup and has been staged for many years - as far as I can tell the final has always been staged in Scotland - I am not sure when teams were initially invited to take part from Ireland, England and Wales. In respect of both English and Welsh clubs it may have been as recent as last season - certainly Sutton United were one of the clubs that entered but were eliminated at an early stage. |
