I dont think we have 2 central midfielders good enough to play in a 2. Where that is the case you need to play the 3 to make up the shortfall.

4-4-2 is dead. Even more so with our midfielders, they'd get run ragged by a side playing 3 in there.

Ah, Rooney. Dragging us through games when Keates came in. I remember we'd cut the gap on the play offs from about 17 points to just 8 with about 10 left to play. We then allowed him to leave for Guiseley. There's your ambition.

The system we played in the 98 point season is the best football we have played and the most successful we have been at this level. We scored 85 goals in 46 games with a goal difference of +52

The following season when we reached the play-offs we had the same setup but a weaker side we scored 74 but had a goal difference of +29

Goal difference since then have been 0, +4, +15, -14, +10, +19

At home we should either have 2 or 3 up front. If you play 4-4-2 then we will get outnumbered in the middle and if you play 4-3-3 then the width needs to come from our full backs who aren't good enough to do that job.

The 4-2-3-1 is a solid system but unless you keep clean sheets then you are in trouble.

As it has been said 433 is fine as a 433.
If we’re going 4321 then we need a change of players.

However 4321 isolates the CF and is very poor IMO.
CD needs to change this approach and I think his formation and tactic needs to be removed, just like him and BH.

I think Hughes had a heavy reliance on Redmond.

4-2-3-1 could work, two holding midfielders covering the defence and Redmond providing the link with the front three.

However he hasn't put in a performance that can be deemed anywhere near good enough.
