I feel sorry for Hughes as I think he’s been shafted by the inept board. But the stats don’t lie, he’s had an horrendous start to the season. I think the problem with Hughes is that he doesn’t have the personality to be a manager, doesn’t demand enough respect and I can see the likes of CD and other senior players dictating when he should be the one in charge.

Unfortunately our wonderful board have contracted CD until next summer so that will be more money down the pan. He’s on one very good wage for his part time hours too.

Get his thoughts and then do the opposite until his contract expires.

Sadly, I am coming round to thinking that come Hughes' departure, there are only a limited number of practical options available. A last resort option unfortunately, might be to appoint Dean Keates as caretaker manager until the end of this sorry season. Much as many fans and I have never liked the playing style he fostered as manager, he could fit the bill in the current dire situation. Such a move would obviously appeal to our 'amateurish' board since it may help them get out of the hole they have dug themselves in, thus enabling the club to regroup, having hopefully saved its National League status.

Can you honestly see them giving Keates a short term contract. No chance. He might keep us up this year but he is not a man to be stuck with going forward. Surely we have enough in the kitty to bring in a better manager. What happened to the Ward money ? Has it all gone on our huge floodlights ?

No I can't, people need to realise we don't give out short term contracts for managers anymore. We've had four bad management team appointments in a row:

Barrow
Newall
Hughes
Flynn

Keates coming back would plumb (incredibly) new depths.
