What it means to be a supporter
Two weeks before I left for Australia as a 9 year old I explained to club that I loved the team but going to Australia meant I would never see them play again A week before I left John Neal picked me up at my home and took me to watch the team train at the Racecourse and introduced me to the whole team He then drove me home again For this reason to this day I support Wrexham with all my heart I watched them again on my honeymoon to Wales I saw them again in 1995 away to Crewe in the snow In 2008/9 I visited and 8 games in a row were postponed because of snow and I left without seeing them Four years ago I brought a mates son out to trial and he played in a friendly against Blackburn I have seen about six games since 1970 But I am a great supporter of this club and hope that it’s sorted soon My main point is that you take watching them for granted I follow every game on a phone Go the Reds

Re: What it means to be a supporter
I would say tounge in cheek you are lucky.
My first recollection was as a 6 or 7 year old standing by the pitch on the kop watching a bloke with a Sketchley the cleaners bag throwing stones at Micky Evans and swearing at him. I told my dad and he stood me at the base of the pylon by the tea bar. This was around 1967. If it was you with that bag throwing stones, I hope you are not up to your old tricks. I have suffered through the bad times and loved the good times. The bad times sadly outweigh the good times these days. I remember the Stockport County game in the FA cup bring postponed around 8 times and playing with snow around the perimeter of the pitch. I have worked on the turnstiles since 1978 and "God" it's turned out like a bad marriage. I still love her but she is not the girl I fell in love with all those years ago. You suffer being 6000 miles away. I suffer not working there ( we are all.one big family ) but by watching the old girl struggle every week remembering what a beautiful thing she used to be. Alas I am not alone in my suffering. You can't take away my memories of Joey Jones, Arfon, Alan Dwyer , Dave Smallman, Micky, Shinton, Everton Williams, Mike Williams, Die Davies. We suffer in different ways but we suffer both the same. One Love. One team. One passion. But many fools follow the same dream. |

Great recollections in these sad times.
I remember falling in love with the club and those red shirts years ago.... my dad took me to see my first game and I insisted on sitting on his shoulders to get a better view, bless him... I was 32 at the time! |

Re: What it means to be a supporter
Some excellent posts above - thanks for sharing your memories - my first game was the Manchester United Cup game of 1957. I didn't really understand what was going on as I'd been passed down to the front of the paddock so I could at least see what was going on. When my dad collected me at the end of the game I asked him who had scored the five goals and won the match - "Wrexham son, of course" he said - I've supported them ever since.
