The next season whilst under a transfer embargo he won 8 out of the first 9 games of the season and turned down the Peterborough job (who were 2 leagues higher and in the Championship) Under the same transfer embargo he achieved promotion. with Bournemouth. He turned down several other offers before eventually leaving in the January of the following season, the perfect time to leave a club.

John Coleman was at Accrington Stanley for 12 years (their longest ever serving manager) and won them 3 league titles to get them into the football league for the first time in their history. He managed 3 clubs in between returning to Accrington.

Keith Hill took over Rochdale whilst in the relegation zone and they ended up finishing 9th. The following season Hill got Rochdale to the playoff final, the sesaon after that he got Rochdale to the playoff final, the season after that Rochdale got automatic promotion. Rochdale then finished 9th in league 1. Their highest finish since the 1969/70 season. He eventually left after 5 years of service for Championship club Barnsley. Returned to Rochdale 2 years later

Darren Ferguson in his first two full seasons won promotion twice with Peterborough. Leaving them in the Championship before returning to once again win promotion via the playoffs also becoming the top scoring side in the whole country. They spent 2 years in the Championship before being relegated (on the last minute of the season with the highest point total to ever get relegation from the championship) he then left by mutual consent.

None of the above mentioned are comparable to Keates. Keates achieved nothing and spat in the clubs face so soon after being appointed. If Keates had of got us promoted then I for one would have no problem with him coming back. I would give managers like Denis Smith a heroes welcome if he were to come back.

Absolutely, no point making the players nervous in what needs to be a win!!

Thanks for putting this to bed.

Some of the comparisons made on this thread are embarrassing.

Denis got a great welcome in the 1864 last time he was in there, standing ovation as he walked in and all that. Great man who's welcome back any time.

I'm not saying the club would fold... but if people want to press the nuclear button it's best to have a plan for what happens after. Exhibit A - Brexit.

I think the question in your last line should be, how many other clubs would have welcomed a manager back who left us in that situation?
I'm baffled as to why a supporter would not support their manager and want him to do well. Other than to have another stick to beat the board with.

Your question is irrelevant to the issue we were discussing. I, like you, wouldn't have appointed him. End of.

Hardly comparable in any way.

Thanks for your input.

You'd press the nuclear button of removing the board with no plan about what happens next?

Nope. I've supported the call for an EGM which has made it clear that won't be possible nor sensible.
You can't compare brexit to this though. Worst case scenario is the WST would have to step in while they find new people for the club board. Plus I doubt anyone would be daft enough to put a fcking idiot like Boris in charge of it all.
