Re: Harrogate Reaction
Like most people in a job, they learn every day. Guardiola has turned Sterling into one of the best instead of a headless chicken with pace. It's all relative of course but your dumbing it down to that phrase is just as honking as Barton's.

Re: Harrogate Reaction
A few changes could potentially make the world of difference, as previously alluded to. Dibble, JBB, and Grant/Oswell for Lainton, Carra, and Hooper and suddenly we're more stable at the back and have a forward who can hold the ball up and make things happen. Oswell, despite his assist today, is a pretty invisible presence and has been since his debut.
Even if it means drafting in some of the youngsters, in some cases they can't be worse than what we have currently and will certainly have more fight. But then again we don't watch them in training every day. Keates has to deal with some dross in this squad tbf to him, but we should back him for now and just hope in the coming weeks he can help us shut up shop at the back and stop dropping stupid points from leading positions like we did today and have done all season. |

Re: Harrogate Reaction
Better team first half - second half we seemed to run out of steam and energy after about 60 minutes - maybe the penalty miss gave the opposition a boost and us a mental blow.
Thoughts ? Right back needs addressing - where was Carrington ? JBB needs replacing. Pearson solid in the middle - Barton was just an advanced defender slightly ahead of the back four - he has little movement, lacks strength in the challenge and is slow - shows no determination and aggression which is a shame for a big bloke - easily beaten in the air because his opposite number appears to try harder. Young and Summerfield had decent games - as did grant up front. Thought Harrogate were a decent footballing side and tried to play football - lots of movement and passing to feet. Other than the goal I can hardly remember us having any decent chances on goal - did we test their keeper especially in the second half ? Whilst Harrogate made maximum use of those fresh legs called subs, Keates dithered until 5 minutes from time before introducing an out of sorts Tollitt who came into the battle far, far, too late. No cutting edge in the final third. Harrogate could easily have won it at the end with a number of late corners - the best we did was half hearted counter attacks. In summary Harrogate were there for the taking - the penalty miss by Grant was possibly the switch that put our lights out for the night. I'm not going to give anyone man of the match - don't think anybody really stood out beyond the majority - long season ahead, squad devoid of quality or if there is any it is injured and not available. Attendance 3,600 ish - no protests or even a single booing episode when Keates was introduced to the crowd just prior to kick off. The new signings have done nothing to improve a squad who couldn't score goals - we are in the same situation with the same problems - you can see why we very rarely score more than a single goal every 90 minutes - oh for a Fondop or Quigley who are banging in goals for fun.Oswell just doesn't look like he has a goal in him and without Grant's goals contribution we would be seriously worse off. |

Re: Harrogate Reaction
It's about the easiest position on the field to play in - sitting before the defence - I don't think the lad broke sweat all night - some occasional nice touches but Barton shows no drive, no pace and labours like an old truck - in total contrast to Wedgbury when he played in the same role. Sponsors man of the match - really ? I would have given it to Young but don't think anyone performed consistently well for 90 minutes - if the game had gone on for another 5 or 10 minutes we would have lost to little old Harrogate on our own pitch - we are in deep trouble.

Re: Harrogate Reaction
We all thought Summerfield was poor !!
Barton ok ,and I would like to see more before I make a judgement! Grant was our best outlet despite his penalty miss. All the others did well IMO Apart from Barnum Bobb - well what can you say ,he tries hard but hes no Carrington, who I presume had a reaction to Saturday when he appeared injured ? Pen goes in happy days , but thats what not putting away your chances does for you

Re: Harrogate Reaction
I haven't felt this pissed off watching Wrexham since the late 80's when we were down to the bare bones playing in front of barely a thousand spectators
