Redefining Success from Failure
With promotion looking very unlikely this season - albeit still not impossible, provided DK brings in some good quality players in the next week - it would be interesting to see what other fans think is reasonable to expect and what they would consider to be success hereon in. Over the past 11 seasons, the points range for the bottom team in the POs has been between 82-73 points, with 78.5 points being the average required. From our lowly total of 16 points it seems highly unlikely we will get 60 points, with many fearing that the 50 point safety floor may also be beyond us. However, other teams who were in our predicament have turned it around and gone on to be promoted. But is DK wise enough, and his players good enough to do so? Personally, I think that with 29 games still to play, DK's new target must not only be to avoid relegation, but to also achieve a total of 60 points, minimum. That would equate to an underwhelming average of 1.5 points per game from Dag & Redbridge onwards. The quality of football we will see is subjective, but I do not anticipate too many top memories. Just dire and nasty stuff to claw ourselves away from the trap-door. So, I think the new measure of success should be 60 points. I also think we will finish mid-table, and have a nasty deficit in our finances due to the Board's mismanagement and players' limited ability. What do you think?

Re: Redefining Success from Failure
Success is promotion and for me any manager who gets us close or in top 3 deserves another crack at it, other than that play offs is an absolute minimum for this club.
However, this is a totally different scenario, and it has to be each game at a time and DK isn't going to turn it round over night especially after seeing how the confidence and cohesion quickly drained out of the team on Tuesday after going behind. Therefore success in the first instance will be stopping the rot, escaping the bottom 4 and getting rid of the threat of relegation. |

It is more like a measure of decline that we would consider 60 points any sort of triumph. Sad does not do justice to it. Worse still in my view is that the only way forward is for the WST to get their act together as I cannot see that are ever going to voluntary cede control in whole or part to anyone else. Firstly getting the act together is not likely and secondly even if it is we are still stuck with owners that do not have the dosh to deliver the full potential of the club. Promotion should not be the aim but an interim target like 60 points. With proper backing we can do much better than L2. What a pity we did not go up last season at least we would have been assured of conference status next year!!!! The reason so many historic clubs are in the basement is money. The nouveau riche are on the ascendancy. We either join them or accept our lot. Judging by the exodus at the Chesterfield game a lot will not be prepared to accept it. |

Re: Redefining Success from Failure
Shocking and embarrassing that a club with our attendance and budget should be in the bottom 4 struggling behind part time clubs and Notts County who nearly went bust in the summer. Just shows how badly we are being managed by WST..Voted 15th to 20th.More in hope than belief

Re: Redefining Success from Failure
The problem we have is that its how the boards measure success isn't it ? Keeping the club structure as it is whether 5th or 6th tier would probably be the main indicator of success. Until that mindset changes we can expect nothing else than maybe the shallow joy of avoiding relegation.

This season is different. We cannot hold DK responsible for the first 15 games and, to be fair, these last 2 games have occurred very quickly into his command. However, there can be no excuses from here onwards. Measuring 'success' for this season is difficult - and clearly subjective beyond avoiding the drop - but we need to gauge what fans are willing to accept, and what the minimum return should be. As for the Board. Leaving aside the personalities, I believe the structure, lack of business acumen and lack of accountability makes it not fit for purpose. If the Board focuses on their self preservation ahead of what's best for the club, then they, too, are unfit to hold their important posts. Unless we conjure up a win on Saturday, and then have an FA Cup run, our coffers will be bare for next season, which will mean an even more difficult task to gain the ultimate success of promotion. I just hope we, like climate change, haven't gone beyond the tipping point.
