I think the team contested all these competitions with a smallish squad.

The grounds were also quagmires for half the season.

Probably a well tuned match fit reserve team too with players available to step up to the first team in every position - didn't we play in the Northern Floodlit League or something similar - all the fixtures / results / league table would be in the match day programme. it was also a good option for up and coming youngsters to break into the first team and a platform for injured players to regain their match fitness - strange world we now live in - supposed to be more advanced and better off in many ways only in reality this is another example that we have gone backwards.

Do the club actually arrange friendlies for the fringe players and scholars etc. if not there's an awful lot of players hanging around doing next to nothing every week.

Since Keates junked the reserves in his first stint here I don't think there's been much of these players to do other than train.

There's a massive gap between the youth and the first team, not to mention those coming back from injury.

Keates has never really shown much interest in the youth scheme, so that's another thing which will not improve/evolve.

I remember we arranged one this time last year when Manny was recovering from the first injury. However, the fact I've got to go back a year suggests they might not happen very often.

How many times even when we had reserve teams did we play matches behind closed doors just to keep players fit,now our squad players have three training sessions on 9 acre to keep them fit.

My point was that the reason for playing there is pointless. May as well go on a stadium tour if you want to see the famous old stadium.
