Its true that's why.
The double standards in the treatment of Ricketts compared to Keates (who left us in a far worse time and position than Ricketts did) is staggering.

Lets not confuse fact with opinion again mate.

Keates left for his hometown club, who were in league one. Ricketts left for our rivals, again in league one. Barely any difference in the two. I also would have Ricketts back as well. Where are the double standards?

I have said to you previously, if you dont rate Keates based on his performance at Wallsall (because the only fact here is that first time round, he did have a good record with us) and the football he plays thats fair enough. Its a valid opinion and I understand completely, but spitting in faces, pull the other one, it just makes a big bold dramatic statement but lets live in the real world he made a footballing decision most of us would have made.

We'll have to agree to disagree here. Where to start.
I don't buy this home town club bollocks for starters, its such an easy lazy convenient excuse. As has been pointed out this club did everything for him and then he goes and walks out at the point of the season? The ultimate insult to the club that backed him as a player and gave him a shot at management.

His first time here produced dreadful football and before he left the team was already in decline. These are facts.

Spitting in the faces may be a tad OTT however essentially its what he did.

Double standards is the abuse given to Ricketts calling him a snakes etc and Keates got none of that when what Keates did to us was far worse. Ricketts left us in a much healthier position too, competing at the top of the league and many believe we would have won the league had he stayed.
Of course there are also the rumours that the board did nothing to stop SR leaving (believable given their displays of arrogance) and he was refused when he tried to ditch Pep Darlington. If you don't back your manager then don't expect loyalty.

The difference is Keates owed more to the club than Ricketts did. Given Rickett's stature as a player someone would have taken a punt on him as a manager, not so much with Keates. Add in the degree, paying his fees, playing, knowing the pain, the additional pain of watching his brand of football, build the budget etc. which Ricketts had none of these extenuating circumstances.

Also the home town club thing is irrelevant. Keates was a key player, team captain and player of the season for his beloved home town team. Ditched them the next season. Clearly he's not longing to be with Walsall for the rest of time. He looks out for himself, which is why he blackmailed us in 2013 before a cup final knowing he'd have the upper hand. It's no surprise we've been dire since 2013 if those are the prinicipals of the club.

Regardless if your in football or any other profession if a company gives you a big break, provides you with every bit of support, funds your training and gives you constant additional funds to succeed and then you walk out on the company after such a short period of time whilst being so close to achieving something the've aimed to do for a decade, you're a shithouse.

Is this on record anywhere? I always assumed they went after their mismanagement of the Mills situation? You know, appointing him at great expense and then letting him run the club into the ground?
24th October 2016 - Horne and Bircham quit

It was a joint reason from what I've heard. Don and Barry were ignored on footballing matters, which for Barry Horne to get dismissed of his opinions by a bunch of volunteers who have 0 experience in football is outrageous.

Adding to that Don and Barry clashing heads with the rest of the board over the Keates blackmail situation and the Wilkin trouble they did not want him to return under any capacity so walked when they were overruled again
