Re: Q and A re Reserves
Brian Little disbanded the reserve team originally saying it was more economical to just play friendlies, I think we played the odd few.
When Saunders took over he re-instated the reserve side saying it was a big mistake disbanding it not professional. Who in more recent times scrapped it I'm not 100% sure if it was Mills or Keates. Posted via mobile theme |

Re: Q and A re Reserves
If you have £10 and 20 commitments perhaps, just perhaps hard decisions have to be made and money saved from things we once had but can no longer afford.
The cost of living at Nationwide Conference level for so long. We all agree that in an ideal world it would benefit the first team if we had a reserve tem playing regular competitive football - allowing young players to prosper and develop and senior / fringe players to return from injury and regain their match fitness. However, someone somewhere, taking into account all the other club expenditure will hopefully have done the maths and come to the conclusion that it's too costly or logistically not possible. Perhaps the current manager (whoever it may be) could divert his playing budget into a reserve team but nobody will ever do it - managers need results here and now - what happens in 3 years time will probably be someone else's problem - and so we plod on. |

Re: Q and A re Reserves
You make the argument that such a decision should be made at board level and not by a 'here today gone tomorrow, manager. If so I would agree. Funnily enough an acquaintance of mine had to make a similar decision a few seasons ago and now the club runs a reserve outfit.
Difficult decisions. |

Re: Q and A re Reserves
To be fair, I seem to recall a quote from Denis that was something along the lines of 'don't spend as much on the youth, spend it on the first team and the club will be more successful'.Whatever, that's in the past.
However, what should be more concerning is grade one fans like wafc1926 ( who I've had many spats with on here) having continued such low opinions of those in charge. That said, I doubt the fun boy three care.
