Looking at that main stand which I believe was built in the 1950's showed the first block nearest the away terrace to be out of action - from my position I couldn't make out if there was covering over the whole seating block or the seats were all removed - perhaps someone in the stand could shed light on this. I am assuming that the primary construction material of that stand due to it's age was mainly timber with some steel frame infrastructure. The second block appeared to contain all our seat dwelling fans - access was limited and highlighted to be a problem in an emergency involving just one supporter. In the event of a fire could all those fans escape ? because all the ingredients are there for another Bradford Valley Parade disaster - a partially unoccupied stand, timber construction, elevated above ground level with narrow steps access - where do they keep their ground maintenance equipment, their fuel, when and how often are the electrics tested ? what else is stored under the stand ? Nobody thought Valley Parade could go up in flames, you have to always question could it ever happen again ? well not with new modern recently constructed stands of which many have been constructed over the last 20 years - but some have not moved with the times have they. |

Re: Taken ill
Stand was built of steel and floor was concrete - therefore no chance anything like Bradford.
Seats were timber and the block nearest the away end was out of action / looked as if seats were in disrepair to me. One narrow egress route to front of stand - 1 person wide. Exit through same point as other standing away supporters. Think people are barking up the wrong trees if they think it was unsafe as wouldn’t get a certificate. But it was a very basic set up |

If the Chorley main stand structure / floor is concrete and not wooden then that will take much of the concern away - historically problems often occur in relation to safety when an old outdated structure which is normally subject to low levels of use / stress is suddenly subjected to high useage hence my earlier point - the stadium / stand no doubt copes quite easily when little southern based clubs visit with 50 supporters on a Tuesday night - then we turn up. |
