Default Re: How safe is Keates?

The only thing that matters at the minute is we stay in the NL and currently we are 50/50 of achieving that, but I dont think changing the manager is going to increase those odds. January is also a dangerous time, particularly with a new manager looking to make some big changes. Sometimes it can kick the team on but equally player uncertainty can make things worse.

I believed in Keates first time round and with his backroom staff, truly thought he ws the man to bring the stability needed to keep this club progressing. That is history and its been topsy turvy since he left with only progress being made under Ricketts (who I thought would be too ambitious to stay with us for too long).

I wasnt enthused by Keates being reappointed, not because I thought he couldn't pick up on the the progress he made previously but because the a large proportion of the fan base were anti.

Regardless what happens with the board or structure of the club in the future, it's all about what happens on the pitch over the last 1/3 of the season. We need players who will roll their sleeves up and fight for every point between now and April.

To sack Keates now in my opinion would be too knee jerk and our board regardless of any faults or perceived faults are likely to stick with their manager and afford him at least one transfer window . We have to trust Keates has been working to get his squad full of those players and off load those who are not up to the job and I believe any change in manager would all most certainly jeopardise the chances of improving that balance.

Its all very well saying we have to trust Keates but the signs on the pitch are screaming he needs to go sooner rather than later. We're no better off now league position wise than when he was appointed. That tells you everything you need to know.

He won't be sacked though, they haven't got the bollocks to be that brave.

I was perfectly fine with Keates coming back, I thought he did a decent job first time round and the Wallsall thing was a logical choice for him and I pay no attention to it.

With that being said, if I was in charge at the time, I would never have appointed him against the vast majority of the fans not wanting it. Keates was always on a hiding to nothing from the first day he arrived back here, when you appoint a new man you are supposed to see an uplift around the club instead fans are turning off in droves.

Even as an optimist, I can only see us just breaking 3000 against Woking and that's if we get a couple of players in.

Assuming he gets players in surely we should be arranging a friendly for Saturday not having 2 wks off, this is the folly of wanting to be out the Trophy early, 2 wks off for can't be arsed players is a joke.

You should have paid attention to what he did at Walsall though, he completely fcked them. I'm not sure why that was ignored. This isn't hindsight.

That added in with the timing of him leaving here makes it one of the current boards most foolish appointments to date.

It doesn't matter much in the scheme of things currently.

History has shown us crowds will drop, when Wxm are struggling. The hardcore will get 100% behind the team if they show the effort and show some bottle for the fight to lift them further and those others who truly love the club will be there if it goes to the wire.

Clubs around us are also going into the last throw of the dice mode.

Fylde, Chesterfield and now Dagenham & Redbridge have made a change - it may work for some, it can't for everybody.

Problem is WE have already made a change this season and it hasn't had the desired effect of improving our league position.

The powers that be are unlikely to make another change this season - it boils down to a pattern of taking the easy cheap option and not having the bollocks to bring in someone with managerial experience. Would have dearly loved to have seen the list of applicants who applied before Bryan Hughes was appointed.

2 weeks of no games should mean plenty of time to work on the training ground. Patterns of play, build up fitness, familiarise further with tactics, but we all know at least a weeks worth of training is going to be "in your own time" down the gym.
