Knowing it was going to happen doesn't mean those two players will be missed especially Patrick who to me has been a revelation - unless we can replace him immediately with another player of the same quality who has the potential to change games and score goals then yes - we have taken a backward step although not of our making - it was good whilst it lasted.

We have struggled to find a specialist right back for a number of years - can't remember his name but Nigel Pearson's son looked decent before he got himself in trouble - yes Carrington almost falls into that space by default because we run out of options - he's reliable and steady and defensively is sound - provided we rely on others to take the ball forward and get in attacking positions - going sideways and backward and putting the responsibility on others shows he is limited - ideally, in the modern game we need an athlete in the Curtis Obeng mould who is sound defensively but who can provide an attacking threat and support to others - Jennings does this but in doing so leaves himself wide open and can't get back - it's a fine line but first and foremost a right back should be able to defend - Carrington is a good steady Eddie and gives the manager some sense of reliability - regardless the return of Reid to Swindon leaves us threadbare in that position in the event of injury and / or suspension anywhere across the back four.

Jennings is the only left back we have though.

Looking that the balance of the squad a right back must be a priority now. Although whilst JBB is still here I wouldn't be opposed to seeing him as a wing back but not in a back 4.

It's been a priority for at least 3 years in my view.
Hughes got rid of Kevin Roberts but failed to bring in a better replacement.
Unfortunately we don't address the problem properly and keep turning to jack of all trades Carrington who has done a commendable professional job - but that's the problem - we never seem to get a full team of real promotion candidates - whenever we sort out a decent back four we are then short in other areas - as much as I have great affection for Carrington and Rutherford they are never going to appear in a Wrexham Promotion winning team - unfortunately for us other players don't fulfil their promise and don't step up to the plate - we then have little choice to turn to the Mr. Reliable's again.

Considering we make about 4,000 signings a season, it's odd he never really has competition. His only competition is Carrington when we're trying out another right back.

It's probably the most specialist position to fill - I'm left handed but I wouldn't want to play as a left back lol. I think you have to be naturally prone with a left sided ability (which most of us aren't) in order to tackle and track a man - of course if the winger with the ball is hugging the touchline with his right foot it's an awful long way from the left backs foot to make an interception - probably the reason Jennings has lasted so long without any long term threat to his position.

I remember playing left back as a youth - got skinned and turned inside out numerous times I nearly ended up my own arse but certainly fell over on it trying to keep up with a very fast winger - who'd be a footballer ? and who'd be a left back ?

Nonsense,

As an eight year old in primary school, none of us kicking a ball about were naturally left footed. I recognised this and spent hours kicking a ball against the side of our house.
My left foot soon became my stronger foot and I wasn't bad with my right either so I switched from RB to LB.
If an eight year old can do it of his own bat, there us no excuse for a full time professional footballer not to be able to play equally as well with either foot.

You just reminded me how useless Bryan Hughes was as a manager.

How is it possible to bring in a right back who is worse than Kevin Roberts ?........but he managed it.

This board of Directors is off the scale for employing him
