Default Keates Factor

Putting all the off the field stuff to one side in my opinion Dean Keates is starting to put a stamp on the team. 10 points out of a possible 15 with 3 wins a defeat at Chesterfield and a draw. I wasn't fussed either way when he was re- appointed but like last time he has got shot of the deadwood and shown a ruthless streak and brought in a number of better players and the results are starting to show a turn for the better. How we are playing now would indicate to me that we will probably finish mid table.

Spot on. Politics aside, Keates is a decent manager.

Give him a decent pre season and he will have us flying next season.

I guess that's what they said at Walsall too.

They were more worried they'd brought a bloke in with no experience of their division based on his previous association with the club. Seems familiar.

I have doubts over Keates but he's much better manager than Hughes. We will finish mid table and he will have us challenging next season. I am not sure he's the right manager to get us promoted though

The one area I would give Keates credit is his newly found skill of bringing in players who seem to work for a change.
Admittedly the jury is still out on Jordan, Keillor-Dunn and Ponticelli but Harris (from previous time here) and Patrick were inspired choices fair play.

Apart from Patrick, the others along with Lainton, Lawlor, Kennedy, Pearson, Young give a solid looking start to a squad of quality.

I wasn't happy with the appointment , felt desperate , lazy and embarresing

But - cannot argue the fact that most of his signings have been good and the team that played on saturday were a joy to watch

So credit where credit is due

Players he's brought in have been decent, can only recall the lad from Swindon raising some eyebrows. All about opinions with managers but Dean is rebuilding what was a mediocre team under Hughes.

What they probably said at Walsall is that they had 26 crap players who were contracted for the following season and, if no one would take them, he would be stuck with them, but they would take a chance on a new manager who had got a team without strikers into 4th place.
