However I do question the timing and reason why the offer was made tom extend his contract now.

When was his contract due to expire ? presumably at the end of the season.

Could the offer cause unrest in the camp ? will others now question when their offer will be made or assume that the management team don't want them for the long term.

From previous history I thought it was customary to announce a clubs retained list as soon as the season ends - perhaps this extension has been granted in response to some possible interest from another club ?
