Keates has been in charge for 5 months. 21 games.

He's won 8 of them. He's drawn 3. He's lost 10.

For some people this is perfectly acceptable. It should not be. But some people have their excuses to continue to back him. Such as:

I will only concede that he inherited a poorly managed side. We are still a poorly managed side under Keates' clueless, one-dimensional, slow-to-react management. The fact is that Bryan Hughes didn't sign many players. His signings have been poor (bar arguably Hooper) but the squad has not been overwhelmingly tainted by Hughes' signings.

In fact in Keates' first game back (1-1 vs Harrogate) 9 of the starting 11 were part of the team that Ricketts had challenging for the league. Fast forward a month (0-0 vs Rochdale) all 11 of the starting players were here under Ricketts. Any half decent manager could get this group of players disciplined, motivated, organised and much further up the table. Instead we have Keates. No new manager bounce, no decent management, no fresh ideas, still in a relegation battle.

Kennedy, Harris, Jarvis, Keillor-Dunn, Ponticelli, Horsefield, Reid, Garratt, Thompson, Barker, Robinson-Murray all signed by Keates since October. Add to that Keates had given contracts to Dibble, Jennings, Pearson, Carrington, Rutherford, Akil Wright, Tharme not that long ago.

11 new signings, 7 players he'd previously signed on. Add to that the players he's got rid of from the club too. This is very much his team and we're still in a relegation dog fight.

An improvement when compared to Bryan Hughes. A man who will struggle to get another management position. What level do we think his next management job will be at? The question shouldn't be has he improved upon potentially the worst manager in our history. It should be whether he's done enough based purely on his own results and the answer to that question has to be no.

He's not going to magically come good either. He's a manager that has had half a good season and that's it. He didn't save us from relegation with Gary Mills' side, he got an almost identical points per game record as Mills that season. He got us up the league until about December. Then he won 5 games out of his last 15 in charge and jumped ship. Spectacularly failed at Walsall and now he's back here and failing once more. Since leaving us his loss rate in games is 51%

All of that is also not taking into consideration the manner in which he walked out on us last time.

It's not taking into account the yes man he is bending over backwards to appease Darlington, Dixie and the board.

It's not taking into account the continuation of the failings we have by keeping him in charge.

It's not taking into account the huge divides amongst the fanbase that will never disappear for as long as he is employed at the club.


We've got 10 games to go. Last time he was in charge he f*cked off with 8 games to go. Lets hope he does the same this time round.

Totally agree. Too many people are prepared to accept staged failure and support a buffoon board, a proven clueless coach and a turn coat manager. I won’t go until they go. ALL OF THEM

Excellent post. 100% Agree with everything.

I went today, it as another example of how tactically naive Keates is. He hasn't got a clue how to set a team up for different formations and seemingly couldn't see that the main issue was Young and Harris being outnumbered in midfield. When you are losing the midfield battle you have to adapt where as Keates brought on Oswell............

Foxy said a good few seasons back "Managed decline " and he is right the state of the club I've supported 50 odd years is heart breaking saved by the fans destroyed by WST and their clowns in charge.

The death rattle of this club is getting louder and louder.

You are one of the guys I take note of.I feel guilty not going but not for the obvious reason.My daughter in the States bought my Season Ticket for me. After 65 years, I have had enough with these in charge.I will not be going again soon until this lot are long gone.
