Virus and Andy Holt reaction

One man in football is trying to take the lead by calling for an immediate suspension to the football season. His caring and measured words on the radio this morning should be listened to and acted on.

Chair and major owner of Accrington Stanley, Andy Holt has outlined his real concerns about the virus's likely impact on his club and football in general and the actions that should be taken.

I think Andy has a point and is showing real community spirit and talks common sense.

Accrington's gates are similar to Wrexham's - If you want to read more about Andy's views he is on Twitter.

Stop the season now so we're guaranteed to stay up.

And Spencer claims it as a huge achievement?

Every cloud has a silver lining.

In all seriousness though I think come next week its going to be games behind closed doors for the rest of the season. Financially that is going to destroy some clubs and badly damage some others.

Except the money bags of the premiership who will no doubt be heavily compensated anyway.
Mind you I would piss myself if the seaon was effectively null and void. Seeing 50k liverpudlians crying in their soup!!

Premiership and championship clubs should in most cases be able to ride this out but if this rumbles on for the rest of the year then a lot of clubs who run close to the line are going to really struggle.

I'm not knocking what has been said above but basically nobody really knows how this is going to turn out. I also heard a senior doctor saying that being at an outdoor event, regardless of how many were present, was safer than being in a pub with 20 or so people.

As for saving us from relegation I understand the comments were 'tongue in cheek'. However it may well need divine intervention to save us from that fate. I believe we just about have good enough players to avoid the drop but the training/coaching/ selection/game plan/game management is, emphatically, not.

I am not a fan of changing managers during the season and especially at this stage but we need a leader with the confidence and ability to inspire players to go out and play to win. We are no where near safe and unless a drastic change in attitude and belief is forthcoming I reluctantly fear the worst.

We rely on our attendances to survive. It'll hurt us but in reality we'll just have less cash to spunk away next season.

Could see one or two teams going under.

Think we’ll be fine in that aspect as our crowds aren’t big enough to warrant it being played behind closed doors.

Your point about interaction of people in open and closed environments is a good one . You are more likely to catch your death of cold at Wrexham matches than coronavirus. Speaking a someone who was frozen stiff at Yeovil a week last Saturday.
I just cannot see this country and big business allowing a complete lock down of society if the situation worsens. In China they have the fear factor of authority which grew up in Communism to prevent social unrest. Can you honestly see our police and armed forces stopping all the toe rags and low life from looting and stealing if our high streets suddenly become empty . People will still stay in hotels, use lifts, and ignore pleas for self isolation. Lets hope it does not get too bad .

With 8 matches to go we were well on the way to promotion until wossisname left and we managed to avoid going up. I wonder if with 8 matches to go this time, he'll provide the impetus again, only in the opposite direction... so that we avoid going down...

Good thinking here FSS - Mrs B. and I were in China last October - it is a country of massive contrasts and we have to remember that we were only shown what they wanted us to see.
The people do what they are told - yes, to an extent because they are too scared to oppose the government but also because millions of inhabitants are having a far, far better life than than even 30/40 years ago.

Speaking to a nurse working in Aberystwyth Hospital yesterday, she said people have come into the hospital to steal hand gels and have even pulled them off the walls. You are quite right about our toe rags FSS -they have already started.

Amazing that it should happen at Aberystwyth Hospital - but should we be surprised? Crime was at its height during the 2nd WW.

If it gets much worse in the Uk, the folks to be very careful are those who receive a flu jab because of their chronic illness, as opposed to their age. These are the group with the greatest risk factors and these people should hang low for the next 6/8 weeks. For everyone else, who are in reasonable nick, it’s life as normal. That’s how I see it.
Ps. Found out today that Costco have run out of toilet roll. It’s flu, not dysentary.

I can only agree with you. Although no fan of Boris and his bunch I do think the official approach from them is just about right for now. The main fault as ever rests with our blessed media who cannot resist building it all up into an immediate disaster. You can just imagine all these little discussions taking place all across the country about the shortage of toilet rolls. A bit like Les Dawson and his sidekick dressed up as women with curlers in their hair. No real understanding of what is happening but quite prepared to act like lemmings and rush off to the local supermarket to make it all worse.
