Had that been the other way around, and our position in the NL depended on us securing 3 points - either in April or at the end of next season, it would be unfair on all other teams too.

No. The only solution is to complete this season's program at some point, with promotion and relegation as usual. After a short break - maybe only two weeks, just to allow managers a chance to transfer players in and out (how many doesn't matter, as it would be the same situation for every manager) and then launch the next season as per.

Players etc would still receive their break from the game, now as well as the two weeks mentioned above, and again it would be the same for all. Contracts would be extended until each team has played its 23 games (plus playoffs and cups) and those with contracts extending beyond this season would simply continue with them until the new season reaches the same position as their original release dates, be that after x number of games, or some other agreed term. There might be a complication where some teams pay players and managers only to the end of the season, while others pay over 12 months, but I'm sure that wouldn't be insurmountable.

Or we could all just stop speculating, see what happens over the next few weeks, and address the subject again when there is some clarity about virus restrictions.
I can see one "small" difficulty with this. When do players have a break.
League suspended 'till April 3rd. Players still have to train in the interim period. League then decides to extend the ban on games being played for another 2 or 3 weeks, players still have to keep fit and train (especially in our situation) Repeat indefinitely.
Peak of graph for cases anticipated June / July.
Time required for a mid season break, transfers, pre season training etc. Be lucky to start again before October.

I agree that they will still want a break. They are having an enforced break from matches right now, and would have another 2 week break between seasons. I take your point that they might NEED to train those breaks, but realistically, every team and every player would be in the same position whatever the NL decided was appropriate. So no real need for concern then.

Cant see why next season should need to be shortened. No reason why players cant play 3 games a week for a couple of months or whatever. Same for everyone. After all,its 90 mins of football not 10 hours hard graft!!

I can't believe that people think there's going to be football in two weeks. We've already been told this virus will be here next spring 2021 not a chance in hell of football being allowed to continue.

Agreed, with a possible peak in two months
It will get worse , before it gets better, and we are all hoping that things calm down and soon.
Keep safe
