Might be that next season starts but its behind closed doors until any vaccine is sorted???

We really are in uncharted waters.

If there is no football this season, there is no blank canvass. There will be many teams that will go to the wall. Players not paid, squads torn apart, etc etc.
Too many people on here don't yet realise the reality/severity of the situation.
To think we will be able to just carry on after huge losses of TV, sponsorship (some sponsors will go broke too) and match crowd income, is at best naïve.
I hope I will be proven wrong ….but I think some people
are in for a massive shock!
UK has a death rate 20x that of Australia, and we are talking of clubs going broke and a whole sport (Rugby League) actually folding because we can see the repercussions of a three month shutdown. This comp has a $750m TV deal and 20,000 average crowds. Players are taking 90% pay cuts in an attempt to keep it afloat. What will players at Wrexham or any other club do?

Excellent post no guarantee of this virus not going on for a year or more nobody knows in truth because it's a new virus and a lot of businesses including football clubs will go to the wall in the leagues above not just our league and below... Football when it does eventually re-start is going to become changed forever, those that survive in the leagues outside the Premier may have to form new league's with the surviving clubs, infact expect some Premier clubs like Bournemouth Brighton etc to struggle to, the rich clubs backers will have lost millions with what will be a recession not seen since the second World War.

Football should be forgotten about now the world is suffering.

One bright spot with humanity confined to their homes Nature is starting to heal the damage done by the overpopulated humans destroying it. Air pollution in cities and towns is tumbling already, which is a major cause of COPD, rivers are clearing.

It's a lesson for mankind that we cannot keep on blindly ignoring our environment.

Stay safe everyone.

Good post, JND. I am still unsure whether we — as a society — are reacting wisely to this dreadful disease. Will the cure be worse than the illness? Regardless, our actions will have enormous financial implications, which will worsen the longer this goes on.

Inevitably, football will continue, but I don’t know in what form. SKY, BT SPORT etc won’t have so much money to support the Premiership, and many current owners will think twice about their forays into British football. Consequently, some clubs may have played their final games. I hope football at our level becomes more regionalised to cut down costs.

As you rightly imply, balancing economic activity with social well-being, whilst also reversing the damage we are doing to the ecosystem — with global warming being the most prolific area of discussion — will be a massive challenge. Some will want to abandon climate change controls because they deem it ‘too expensive’. That would be a simple yet catastrophic error and failure of leadership. But the pressures to do so will be enormous.

Personally, I think we need to repatriate much of the production currently done in China, where controls and standards are below what we should be accepting in the West.

This is all if's and but's and secondary to what's going on in the world.

Your right but football does play a massive part on so many peoples lives - there are people's jobs at stake, club workers, playing staff and the numerous service providers and people who all come together to make match day possible.

As a related example I spoke to a young lady the other day on a supermarket checkout working her 'first day' - two weeks ago she was a happy hairdresser - her world has been turned upside down but she is greatful that by chance she has found another opportunity so fast - others wont be so lucky.

I think I read an article earlier from the AFC Fylde Chairman who stated all staff were going onto a 50% reduction to their wage - some clubs will fold - Macclesfield and Barnet were struggling massively anyway and this may well tip them over the edge - not forgetting that we are only into the first week of lock down which is likely to last many months.

The Vanarama National League management committee are supposed to be meeting this afternoon so perhaps big announcements will be made later today.

All I’m really saying, in an imperfect and unprecedented situation, is that if you are top after 38 games you deserve to go up and if you’re in the bottom 4 after 38 games you deserve to go down, and so we can close the season based on what happened before Covid-19, not base it on what may or may not have happened after it. Voiding the season means we think that the 8 or so unplayed games that remain are more important than the 38 that have been played.

And there is a bigger point than this, think about it, if we void the whole season, are we not retrospectively assigning the virus an unnecessarily even bigger impact than it is already having?
We were top last season having played 36 games

Sutton were top in 2017/18 with Macclefield having 8 games left, the season finished with Macclesfield winning the league and 13 points clear of Sutton. We were 3rd that season having played 40 games! We finished 10th.

A lot can change in 8 games and we should know more than any other club those last 8 games are huge. They are when teams are really tested, they are the games that we have failed in the most. You shouldn't win or lose anything without a ball being kicked in those last 8 games.

Either void the season or commit to playing on, whenever that will be

I wish they would hurry up and cancel the rest of the season so I can get my sweet, sweet season ticket refund.

I won't be getting a refund. Taking the money back out of the club is one of the worst things you could do to it given the circumstances
