There's only 2 options Finish the season, if possible, and push next season start date back if required Cancel this season, and start next season if possible as normal First option would be the sensible one up to a certain date, you probably need about 5-6 weeks to play remaining games (2 a week, than the playoffs) Second option as seeing now is that clubs in promotional positions are going to start challenging the decision, to void the current season and go to the courts which could than impact the whole of the football structure. As no one would know what leagues they would be in and who they are playing against, the fixture list would be a nightmare. Everything is up in the air as there isn't a confirmed date as to when everything can get back to some sort of normality. Until that date is known, than you can come up with a million endings and scenarios.

Re: Decision on finishing the season
The chairman of Maidenhead has the best solution - at every level cancel the season but reward teams with promotion on a ppg basis. No team relegated. Throughout the leagues there will be some extra teams in each league next season (2 more in our league) but that's a good thing because it boosts revenue. This deals with :
1. The issue of it not being possible to finish the season in a reasonable time frame 2. The difficulties of carrying the season over into the start of what should be 20-21 season 3. the unfairness of cancelling for those teams doing well This solution satisfies the greatest number, is coherent and minimises damage by restricting it to those clubs who might have hoped for a good ends of season finish - something has to give. |

Re: Decision on finishing the season
BBC reporting National League has been "suspended indefinitely" but no decision taken about promotion/relegation; so in effect kicking the can down the road.
Though I do understand that as whatever they do it's tricky, and whatever they do they and all football leagues in the UK and elsewhere will be very alert to the possibility of legal challenges. |

“ Breaking news The three divisions of England's National League have been suspended indefinitely because of coronavirus. The competition had been originally postponed until 3 April but that has now been extended following a board meeting on Tuesday. It comes after all non-league football in steps three to seven was ended immediately on Thursday with no promotion or relegation. The National League said it was looking at "how best to conclude" the season.” Last edited by Wiltshire_Red; 31st March 2020 at 15.50:25.. |

Re: Decision on finishing the season
9 games until the end of the season, there clearly doesnt need to be too much of a break between end of this and beginning of next, provided players and clubs can get their backsides into gear preparing contracts and for now furlough etc.

If you have done 80% of a job surely you are best to finish off that job rather than to leave the job nearly done before you start the next job? If any season has to be restricted I'd say it should be next season not this which is mainly finished. That's a current view though; if we are still in such a severe situation we can't start this season again even in (say) late May/early June there probably comes a point at which you need to take a different view. |
