I firmly believe that the departure of John and the ultimate success of promotion was the initial start of the decline.
The relationship with the players was always good but the pressures of Division 2 football led to a degree of distancing between club officials and fans. I felt that John led the Town whilst Arfon led the team. Obviously a personal opinion but from my point of view there was a change in the clubs attitude.
John wanted to go to prove himself at a higher level. After everything he had done for Wrexham the board wouldn't have stood in his way. I agree John Neal was a legacy manager. He built a philosophy like Stein, Shankly, Ferguson and now Klopp is doing. Whereas Arfon was a fantastic footballer and just a very good manager but not a great one like John.

I was not aware of the distancing you describe in Division 2. Between the club officials and the fans. I would be interested to know if you are speaking personally in your own experience of certain officials or on behalf of others as a collective ?

I think it was more of a perception that the club engaged less with the fans as there were so many of them at the time.
We had a great time as a club and Centenary members raising funds for the club prior to promotion and we got on well with all the Directors at the time, your father especially.
I felt that the club got carried away on the success we'd had and then when quite a few Directors changed, the club began it's downward trend.

I have pleasant memories of the island, travelling on the Hopper, a bus which travels from one island vineyard (they have quite a few) to the next in a continuous loop. A very pleasant chauffeured vineyard crawl so to speak. There are worse places to be isolated.

The furlough shows that the season won’t end. Just needs as fair a way as possible to decide on the best outcomes.

Absolute rubbish! The furlough shows that the club cannot financially sustain payment of wages as the statement said . Whether the fixtures end or are postponed is totally irrelevant. These people rely on money coming in just like millions of others.

Apologies. I will just follow your opinion in future. Please keep me updated on it.

Season is over null and void the league tough on teams at the top and a lifeline for the bottom teams. But whenever football starts again I think it will be in a different format as maybe some teams can't sustain the costs and fold and maybe revert to the old North and South leagues. I can actually remember the time and watched games then. Teams long forgotten, who played in the northern league .New Brighton, Bradford Park Avenue, Workington, plus all those teams that are in the conference with us,Barrow,Halifax,Chester,(was).and a number of others.

Diolch yn fawr Quay Red. That resonates with me. I would certainly say these gentlemen I list below did the club no favours in terms of their reason for being a director.

Nev & George Dickens, Steven Freudman , Gordon Mytton.

It was their desire for control, to be the big fish and their pursuit of shares that led to Fred selling his stock and then the richest of all of them Pryce acquiring his 78% shareholding and as they say the rest is history.

Pryce was certainly a football man and had been around the club for a while, but the others just liked the glory attached to the football club that had been built up in the 70's and that they had not even helped to achieve. Sponsorship is not really the same thing as rolling your sleeves up and making it happen.

I saw the hopper yesterday. 502.

Unfortunately all the vineyards are closed. Even the postal service is in lock down. It's basically a man and his dog around here. Although there is a fella who takes a rowing boat out every day and told me (at 3 meters conversation distance) he had caught 5 snappers yesterday and had to throw two back because 3 was enough for the week ahead. He reckoned fishing stocks have never been so good on the island as they have stopped the commercial fishing. Perhaps the little man is going to do better in this New World Order that is emerging. I really hope so.

Am lucky to be here. I did deserve some luck I think. I spent 10 months of last year lying on the carpet at home. Curled up on the floor. I was sunk by severe depression that was triggered by Neil Dobie passing away so tragically. He was such a great mate.

But there is a little happy buddha in the garden here. I talk to neil each day through him. Next to neil's farmhouse in droux was Europes biggest Buddhist retreat. Neil wasn't really into it, but me and his kiwi girlfriend persuaded him to go drive in and have a look around. Funnily enough Neil had the time of his life in there. He ended up climbing up this giant 20 ft tall buddha to rub his belly. He came back down laughing saying....

"right, thats us promoted this season, I've just rubbed the old fellas belly"

And actually it was only Orient and 2 points that stopped it from coming true.
