I started out as El Poncho as I was married to a Spanish girl.

We divorced amicably. Hard to do but we did it.

Last year I changed it to Welsh Kiwi because I am Welsh, my dad was Welsh and my mum was a Kiwi. And we all loved Wrexham Football Club.

Mine is nothing to do with newspapers!
I used to be a trainspotter in Top Field,Rhosddu. On Saturday mornings a steam train hauling unusual green carriages used to come through on its way from Birkenhead to Bournemouth.Fellow spotters called it the 'Bourney' but I used to think of it as the South Coast Express.
I have lived on the south coast for 45 years and still have a love for old trains.Hence southcoastexpress.

If you are of a certain age , I mean old, you will have memories of trainspotting as a youngster. My old fella was shedmaster at Croes Newydd and I used to delight in getting as close to the loco shed from the path leading from the crossing gates up from the station to spot the steam engines. And standing on the bridge in Pandy waiting for the trains to come up Gresford Bank. Probably saw the same train as you on more than one occasion. Still have a passing interest and get a magazine once a month.

Memories are made of this.Pandy Bridge was a good place especially as there was a field on the south side where we could have a kickabout waiting for trains. In the early/mid sixties there used to be an old advertising hoarding at the side of the track leading from Watery Road crossing gates to Croes Newydd shed. The advert panels had long disappeared leaving just the wooden skeleton. This made a great perch and always had us local spotters sitting on it with our bikes strewn around. On wet days we would shelter in the guards vans parked on Workhouse Sidings alongside the path.Getting off topic I know, sorry!

This does deserve a thread of its own Yes that old frame to sit on. Gasbag (Garsington Manor) in Croesnewydd shed, the only namer there?. Ian Allens Western region at 2/6p and so on....
As for Inside Left - well - Number 10 on my shirt.

Staying off topic for a while longer, my uncle was one of the signalmen at Croesnewydd back in the late 60s and 70s. It was a busy old place then with the sheds and the line up to Brymbo still working. Ideal for young spotters. Also pre-dates Health & Safety regulations.

My user name is in honour of a very good friend of mine who would regularly buy the halftime pies whenever he was up for the game. He also enjoyed a pint or five in the Maesgwyn. Sadly ill health prevents him travelling these days.
