Re: one player that made the entrance fee worthwhile.
Lake first spell wins it for me, just ahead of Psycho and Carlos. Trundle definitely up there as well. More recently, Danny Sonner stands out as a bright spot in a sea of dross in those games he played in - if only we'd got him when he was closer to his peak!

Re: one player that made the entrance fee worthwhile.
Everyone’s covered most of mine already!
Mike Lake, Darren Ferguson, midfield wizards Lee Trundle, Kevin Russell, Karl Connolly, for sure. Some great keepers even, particularly Andy Dibble, to name but one, pure class. Two total legends, Joey Jones and Mickey Thomas, a total pleasure seeing them play. And meeting them ever since has been amazing. But if there’s one player that made me pray for the next game, so I could see him play, knowing he was going to make things happen, and score.... Gary Bennett. . |

Karl Connolly
And during that fateful season the half dozen games Mark Wilson played for us. Flipping heck he was some winger. King Karl coming in from left and Wilson from right midfield. Can have a cry wank just thinking of those days

Quote:
'Psycho the Chester reject' - it was a magical period when he was banging in goals for fun - and the man was a pure entertainer to the adoring masses. I remember him playing in a home league match v Hull City one evening kicking towards the kop - he was running across the box with about three defenders in pursuit - he suddenly stopped - the defenders carried on and he put the ball in the opposite side of the net from where he had come from - magical goal.....and memories. But he knew how to play to the crowd too and milked it to it's maximum. |
